BWW Reviews: JASON ALEXANDER with THE BPO at KLEINHAN'S MUSIC HALL
by Michael Rabice - Oct 18, 2015

A mix of borscht-belt comedy and Broadway showtunes, with a hint of neurotic sitcom hyperactivity. That's what an Evening with Jason Alexander with the BPO was like last night.

BWW Reviews: YOU LOVE THAT I'M NOT YOUR WIFE a Real Crowd Pleaser in NoHo
by Don Grigware - Sep 15, 2014

Think quirky like Moonstruck, only transplant the action from New York to Los Angeles and replace the large Italian Family with a dysfunctional community of friends and their current significant others. For those that have forgotten Moonstruck it was a hit movie in 1987 in which relationships were turned upside down, inside out under the spell of a full moon, creating odd, unpredictable sexual entanglements. It's not John Patrick Shanley but Joanne Mosconi who has written You Love That I'm Not Your Wife, and with a kooky title like that, something's got to give comedically. Now onstage in NoHo at the Avery Schreiber Playhouse, Wife is a crowd-pleaser with miles of heart, 10 very likable characters as well as the actors playing them.. under the direction of the playwright who really knows how to keep the pacing fast and bright and to stage action fully within the confines of a minimal space.

This February, join the LA New Court Theatre as we experience John Osborne's Look Back in Anger directed by Rhonda Kohl. This classic piece is strongly influenced by the playwright's unhappy marriage to actress Pamela Lee and gives the audience a glimpse into his life. Look Back in Anger, a monster of a masterpiece, is considered to be the literature that gave birth to the 'angry young man plays.' As Producer Ashley Partington says, 'On paper, the emotions John Osborne puts his character through are palpable. Live, it's almost unbearable to watch - but the audience won't be able to look away.'

BWW Reviews: Robyn Spangler Sparkles in Linda Ronstadt Tribute Show at Metropolitan Room
by Stephen Hanks - Jul 15, 2012

During her recent two-night run at the Metropolitan Room (July 11, 12), Los Angeles-based nightclub singer and actress Robyn Spangler gingerly walked the tribute show tightrope and made it to the other side intact. Her show 'Why I Love Linda Ronstadt' - which earned her a 2011 BroadwayWorld.com honor as L.A.'s 'Best Female Cabaret Artist - was an honest and heartfelt homage to her singing heroine. Her Ronstadt show hit almost all the right tribute notes, with solid arrangements from her Musical Director/Pianist Todd Schroeder (who also provided nifty backup vocals) that were reverential without being replications.
