Howard Hawks, the quintessential Hollywood director known for his mastery of many genres, will be the subject of a complete retrospective at Museum of the Moving Image from today, September 7 through November 10, 2013. The Museum will present 39 features. All of the films will be shown in 35mm-many in stunning restorations-except for Red Line 7000, which will be shown in 16mm.

On Friday, October 4 at 8:00 p.m. in Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage, The New York Pops, led by Music Director Steven Reineke, opens its 2013-2014 concert season at Carnegie Hall with special guest Chris Botti. The internationally renowned jazz trumpeter joins The New York Pops to perform a new spin on classic standards and other favorites. The performance will include songs such as When I Fall In Love and Emmanuel in addition to other selections from Botti's recent Grammy Award-winning album Impressions.

On October 4, 2013, The New York Pops orchestra will launch its 31st Season at Carnegie Hall with An Evening with Chris Botti. Music Director and Conductor Steven Reineke - described by The New York Times as a "polished, welcoming host" who is "young and vigorous, with a playful attitude" - will lead the orchestra in a highly-anticipated opening with America's largest-selling instrumental artist, trumpeter Chris Botti. The performance will include selections such as Chopin's "Prelude in C Minor," "Emmanuel," and "When I Fall in Love" from his recent Grammy Award-winning album Impressions, as well as other popular favorites, at Carnegie Hall's Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage.

Jazz Vocalist Jane Harvey Dies at 88; Performed with Benny Goodman, Desi Arnaz

Jane Harvey, who recorded a string of classic hits with the Benny Goodman orchestra in the 1940's and later sang with Desi Arnaz, died Aug. 15 at her home in West Hollywood. She was 88 and the cause was cancer.

Benny Goodman's 1938 show at Carnegie Hall in New York has been billed as the world's most famous jazz concert, a ground-breaking event that brought jazz into the mainstream. The concert featured such swing icons as Lionel Hampton, Harry James, Gene Krupa, Count Basie, Lester Young and Johnny Hodges and included such timeless jazz classics as "Don't Be That Way," "Avalon," and the iconic swing performance of "Sing, Sing, Sing."
