On November 1, 2013, The New York Pops continues its 31st season in a return to the days when big bands ruled the dance floor with Tony Award nominee Montego Glover and Dave Bennett, clarinet, guest artists, joining the orchestra in an all-swing program, featuring a tribute to the 75th anniversary of Benny Goodman's legendary live recording at Carnegie Hall.

Peter Oundjian launches his tenth season as Music Director of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, with a feast of rich and powerful music. Tonight and tomorrow, September 18 and 19, the inaugural concerts of the season will feature the first of several works by Benjamin Britten to be performed this season in honour of the reverEd English composer's centenary.

Miller Theatre at Columbia University School of the Arts kicks off the 2013-14 season of its Jazz series with ANAT COHEN QUARTET on Saturday, October 12, 2013 and WARREN WOLF QUARTET on Saturday, November 2, 2013.

Howard Hawks, the quintessential Hollywood director known for his mastery of many genres, will be the subject of a complete retrospective at Museum of the Moving Image from today, September 7 through November 10, 2013. The Museum will present 39 features. All of the films will be shown in 35mm-many in stunning restorations-except for Red Line 7000, which will be shown in 16mm.

On Friday, October 4 at 8:00 p.m. in Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage, The New York Pops, led by Music Director Steven Reineke, opens its 2013-2014 concert season at Carnegie Hall with special guest Chris Botti. The internationally renowned jazz trumpeter joins The New York Pops to perform a new spin on classic standards and other favorites. The performance will include songs such as When I Fall In Love and Emmanuel in addition to other selections from Botti's recent Grammy Award-winning album Impressions.

The performance will include selections such as Chopin's "Prelude in C Minor," "Emmanuel," and "When I Fall in Love" from his recent Grammy Award-winning album Impressions, as well as other popular favorites, at Carnegie Hall's Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage.

The third annual Morristown Jazz & Blues Festival returns today, August 17th with ten hours of free music on the beautiful Green in downtown Morristown, New Jersey. The music runs from noon until 10:00 p.m. and features legendary jazz guitarist Bucky Pizzarelli with guitar partners Frank Vignola and Ed Laub, young blues sensation Quinn Sullivan, the Jazz Lobsters Big Band, Rob Paparozzi and the Hudson River Rats and guitar master Johnny A.

Jane Harvey, who recorded a string of classic hits with the Benny Goodman orchestra in the 1940's and later sang with Desi Arnaz, died Aug. 15 at her home in West Hollywood. She was 88 and the cause was cancer.

On Sunday, September 22, 2013 The Capital Jazz Orchestra and New York City clarinet virtuoso Ken Peplowski will salute the 75rd anniversary of this momentous concert…recreating that very show, to the minute! Benny Goodman's 1938 show at Carnegie Hall in New York has been billed as the world's most famous jazz concert, a ground-breaking event that brought jazz into the mainstream. The concert featured such swing icons as Lionel Hampton, Harry James, Gene Krupa, Count Basie, Lester Young and Johnny Hodges and included such timeless jazz classics as "Don't Be That Way," "Avalon," and the iconic swing performance of "Sing, Sing, Sing."

New York City becomes host to the Empire Dance Championships, an inaugural world-class dancesport competition and showcase of ballroom and latin dancers from North America and around the world, to be held at the Conrad New York hotel in lower Manhattan, with a formal Grand Opening Gala event on Wednesday evening, Aug. 7 and the dance competitions beginning this morning, Aug. 8 through Saturday evening, Aug. 10.
