While the Portland, Ore.-based, 12-member ensemble has been making waves for more than a decade with its fresh take on vintage big band sound, blending a multilingual mix of 1940s jazz, global rhythms and more-it appears for the first time with the Symphony, led by Principal Pops Conductor Richard Kaufman, on Thursday-Saturday, April 8-10, at 8 p.m, in the Renee and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall.

Recorded in Buenos Aires, Argentina, featuring a superb ensemble of tango and jazz musicians, 'Tango Grill,' the new recording by Argentine-born, New York-based bassist Pablo Aslan, is a brilliant follow up to 'Buenos Aires Tango Standards' (Zoho Music, 2007). The bassist will perform in Jazz at Lincoln Center in a performance featuring Nicolas Ledesma and Abel Rogatini on piano, Pablo Agri on violin, Gustavo Bergalli on trumpet, Daniel Piazzolla on drums, and Michael Zisman and Raul Jaurena on bandoneon.

This intriguing event is a bilingual musical that celebrates the art of two of Argentina's best-known and most-beloved cultural figures: tango musician and composer Astor Piazzolla, and writer Jorge Luis Borges, who collaborated on a 1965 tango album called El Tango. Featuring original music from 2007 Latin Grammy winner Raul Jaurena, this production features an ensemble of tango dancers who bring the passion of the music to life.
