Music Mountain to Launch New Collaboration with Catskill Jazz Factory

Music Mountain, America's Oldest Continuing Summer Chamber Music Festival, announces an exciting new collaboration with The Catskill Jazz Factory! Beginning on Saturday, July 16, a variety of jazz musicians will bring their talents to Music Mountain for a 5-weekend concert series. Artists scheduled to appear include Joanna Wallfisch, Dan Tepfer, Peter and Will Anderson Quintet, Chris Washburne's Ragtime Band and Chris Pattishall Octet. Concerts are scheduled Saturday evenings (6:30pm) beginning July 16 and running thru August 13. 'We are absolutely thrilled to have the Catskill Jazz Factory for five consecutive weeks. These not to be missed concerts will lift our Saturday Twilight series to new heights of excitement and popularity, 'announced Nicholas Gordon, President, Music Mountain.

Uruguayan pianist/producer Polly Ferman is proud to present GlamourTango, a unique all-female multi-media music and dance show that pays tribute to the women who quietly wrote the pages of Tango from the very beginning and, until now, have not been recognized for their contributions to the irresistible art form. The show includes fascinating and rarely seen black and white films from Argentina, recorded in the early forties, featuring female singers and tango dancers. Polly Ferman has created and produced this stylish production of tango music and dance from South America's Rio de la Plata region, performed by an ensemble of musicians, vocalists and dancers who specialize in the art of Tango.  Wednesday May 11, 7 PM, at The Cutting Room, 44 East 32 Street, NYC.

Chicago Philharmonic Announces 2016-17 Season

The Chicago Philharmonic announces its 2016-17 season: Love. Throughout five concerts, the season explores orchestral favorites and lesser known offerings representing varying expressions of love. Guest performers include conductor Gerhardt Zimmermann, Visceral Dance Chicago, and a range of renowned vocalists and instrumental soloists. Scott Speck leads the orchestra in his fourth season as artistic director.

Grammy-nominated, internationally acclaimed artist Ute Lemper's collaboration with renowned best-selling author Paulo Coelho, The 9 Secrets, is set for release on February 12 via Steinway & Sons. The album presents a song cycle composed and sung by Lemper, set to words by Coelho from his 2012 novel Manuscript Found in Accra, the thematic content of which may be encapsulated in the lines, "After lying undiscovered for over 700 years, a manuscript holding the answers to questions about life and humanity is unearthed. / Simple questions about our lives torn between happiness and sorrow and defined by hope, intelligence and desire to love as much as the capacity to hate and destroy." Coelho himself is featured on two tracks-see below for track list. In celebration, Lemper will perform the piece in its entirety in a fully staged production at Symphony Space in New York City on May 13, tickets and information here.

Pacific Symphony's Café Ludwig Series to Present DANCING WITH THE STARS Event, 2/28

Orange County, Calif.—Feb. 3, 2016—Pacific Symphony's chamber music series, Café Ludwig, takes its audience on a foray into music inspired by dance for “Dancing with the Stars,” a program of exuberant works by star composers showcasing lively dance rhythms. The program brilliantly reveals connections found in energetic gypsy and Hungarian rhythms, a seductive and languorous habanera and that quintessential dance form—the waltz—as first conceived by Brahms, then reimagined by Schoenberg. For the eighth season, charming and sensational pianist Orli Shaham serves as the series' curator/host, leading this matinee of music on Sunday, Feb. 28, at 3 p.m., in the Samueli Theater at Segerstrom Center for the Arts. In its 103rd year, the Houston Symphony announced the upcoming season at Jones Hall on Monday, January 25, in front of several hundred guests and supporters, emphasizing the institution's ongoing collaboration with living composers, a continued focus on new music, a renewed concentration on innovative programming, and world-class musicianship and entertainment. Houston Symphony Music Director Orozco-Estrada, Principal POPS Conductor Michael Krajewski, and Executive Director/CEO Mark C. Hanson were on hand to unveil the new season and share their favorite highlights.
