Houston Symphony Announces 2016-17 Season

The Houston Symphony's 2016-17 season, Andres Orozco-Estrada's third season as music director, celebrates more than a century of leadership in Houston's cultural landscape. In its 103rd year, the Houston Symphony announced the upcoming season at Jones Hall on Monday, January 25, in front of several hundred guests and supporters, emphasizing the institution's ongoing collaboration with living composers, a continued focus on new music, a renewed concentration on innovative programming, and world-class musicianship and entertainment.

Milwaukee Symphony Performs Two 'Fantastical' Fairy Tales This Weekend

MILWAUKEE, WIS. 01/06/2016– The Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, led by guest conductor Christopher Seaman, presents two performances of Stravinsky's musical masterpiece The Firebird this weekend, January 22 and January 23 at 8:00 p.m. at the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts. Paired with The Firebird is Dukas's “dance poem in one scene”, La Peri. Also programmed are Elgar's overture In the South (Alassio) and Sibelius's Violin Concerto in D minor as performed by Karen Gomyo. Ms. Gomyo has been hailed as “a first-rate artist of real musical command, vitality, brilliance, and intensity,” by the Chicago Tribune. 

Philadelphia Orchestra Concertmaster to Perform with York Symphony Orchestra, 2/13

On Saturday, February 13, 2016 at 7:30 p.m., David Kim, the concertmaster of The Philadelphia Orchestra will join the York Symphony Orchestra as a violin soloist during the classical series performance, "Beethoven in Buenos Aires." The concert is the third performance in the 2015-2016 classical series.

Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater Comes to Kennedy Center Next Month

Led by Artistic Director Robert Battle, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater (#AileyKenCen) makes its annual Kennedy Center appearance with seven performances in the Kennedy Center Opera House, February 2-7, 2016. The Company returns to the Kennedy Center with two company premieres, three D.C. debuts, including Robert Battle's first world premiere since becoming artistic director in 2011, and a total of 11 works by a diverse range of choreographers. Alvin Ailey's American masterpiece Revelations will provide the finale for all five programs.

Vanessa Perez to Perform at Americas Society, 1/28

Versatile pianist Vanessa Perez to perform music by Manuel de Falla and Claude Debussy at the Americas Society on January 28 at 7pm. An accomplished performer since her concert debut at age 11, Perez will perform from her forthcoming disc Spain, out February 12 on the Steinway & Sons label.

Six world premieres highlight this year's diverse Festival as well as 2 one-woman cabarets, 4 dance works, 1 circus act, 3 solo shows, 1 musical reading, 2 play readings, 9 theatre productions, 1 interdisciplinary piece, 1 spoken word performance, a 24-hour play festival, and many returning favorites.
