A.C.T. will present a special online screening of the record-breaking musical, Armistead Maupin's Tales of the City, The Musical.

Today we rewind to 2015, when the La Jolla Playhouse production of The Hunchback of Notre Dame transferred to Paper Mill Playhouse. Featuring a score by Alan Menken and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, the production was directed by Scott Schwartz and starred Michael Arden, Patrick Page, Ciara Renée, Andrew Samonsky and Erik Liberman.

The Rubicon Goes Retro series continues July 20 through 22 with 2 AM AT THE SANDS: SAMONSKY SINGS SINATRA, a concert starring Broadway leading man and Ventura native ANDREW SAMONSKY backed by a nine-piece swing band conducted by KEVIN SURACE.

Today we rewind to 2012, when Scandalous opened at the Neil Simon Theatre, where it played for 29 performances. Led by Carolee Carmello, the musical featured a book and lyrics by Kathie Lee Gifford and music by David Pomeranz and David Friedman. It also starred Edward Watts, Andrew Samonsky, Roz Ryan and George Hearn.

Musical icons, champions of the Civil Rights Movement and Black Lives Matter, Broadway stars, and a?oeAmerica's Got Talenta?? finalists have come together to help raise funds for Rubicon Theatre Company, a non-profit theatre company in Ventura, California with a 4th of July event called a?oeVoices of America: Songs and Stories of Conflict, Crisis, Healing and Hope.a??

After record-breaking opening week sales, Rubicon Theatre Company has announced details related to the first event of Rubicon Goes Retro, the company's Safe-Distance Drive-In Theatre Concert Series featuring live 75-minute concerts at the Ventura County Fairgrounds that patrons can enjoy from the safety and comfort of their cars.

One theatre company in California has found a creative way to change that for their audiences. Rubicon Theatre Company, based in the beachside community of Ventura, has become the first non-profit professional regional theatre in the nation to announce a Safe-Distance Drive-In Theatre Concert Series.

Just like many other theatres from Broadway to Boise, Rubicon's goal has always been to bring people together and build a sense of community.  Priority one for Rubicon at this time of year is the Summer Youth Program.

The story of Newfoundland and the town of Gander was a chance to remember the good in so many. COME FROM AWAY is an amazing true story of how 7,000 people were stranded in Gander and how the good in everyone was quickly discovered. BWW was able to chat recently with Andrew Samonsky who plays Kevin and other characters in COME FROM AWAY as it begins its week in San Antonio, Texas at the Majestic Theatre.

COME FROM AWAY is a 2017 musical play that memorializes the best of how humans can react in the face of the 911 tragedy. It is both a testament and the best new musical in many years.

Come From Away is based on a true story of when the isolated community of Gander, Newfoundland played host to the world. What started as an average day in a small Canadian town turned into an international sleep-over when 38 planes, carrying thousands of people from across the globe, were diverted to Gander's air strip on September 11th, 2001. Undaunted by culture clashes and language barriers, the people of Gander cheered the stranded travelers with music, an open bar, and the recognition that they're all part of a global family.

All told, Come From Away, provides a powerfully inviting experience and is perfect for this holiday season. It preaches hope and love in a way that can be appreciated by everyone.

Andrew Samonsky was born and raised about an hour north of Los Angeles in the coastal town of Ventura, CA. He majored in Music at California State University, Northridge, which just so happens my Alma Mater. Part of the Opera Program, Samonsky started taking drama classes from two professors, Peter Grego and Linda de Vries, who were the first theatre professors to direct operas in the music department. It was a huge educational opportunity for Samonsky to get acting training, which prior to this, the opera students never got. Samonsky says Grego and de Vries were instrumental in helping him prep and get into Grad School at UC Irvine. He shifted into theatre/musical theatre and hasn't looked back. A veteran of several Broadway and off-Broadway shows, along with several national tours and a Drama Desk Award nomination, I had the incredible good fortune to have a long chat with him about his career and his role in the National Tour of COME FROM AWAY, which lands in Montreal on Tuesday, November 26, 2019.
