It was 1985 when LES MISERABLES debuted with English lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer as Cameron Mackintosh produced the English version at the West End that ran from October 1985 until July 2019. It was an instant hit and has since had runs on Broadway as well as many other countries. Today, LES MISERABLES is selling-out to crowds all over North America and makes a stop in San Antonio, Texas and the famous Majestic Theatre.

BWW Review: LES MISERABLES Builds the Barricade in Jackson
by Juliana Asbill - Mar 13, 2019

When the lights dimmed in the theatre on March 8th, the cast of Les Miserables began what can only be described as a musical marathon. With practiced precision, they began a performance where, for almost 3 hours, singing was the only form of communication, and the entire audience was transported back to the 19th century in France, where a man served 19 years in jail for stealing bread, spent years chased by a relentless police inspector, young love was found for one but crushed for another, and a revolution was fought for by a group of students and citizens who will risk their lives for what they believe is right.

BWW Review: LES MISERABLES at Times Union Performing Arts Center
by Jordan Higginbotham - Jan 23, 2019

The Les Miserables National Tour has made its stop in Jacksonville and has audiences cheering. Les Miz, as it is known to many theatre goers, is based on Victor Hugo's novel of the same name.  The story is set in France between 1815 and 1832, features iconic characters such as Jean Valjean, Javert, Fantine, Eponine, Cosette, and so many more. Audiences are able to follow their stories through a show that is sung COMPLETELY through and feel all the emotions, triumphs, and excitement that is in front of them. I cannot say enough good things about Les Miserables, but let's try!

BWW Review: LES MISERABLES at Saenger Theater

BWW Review: LES MISERABLES Dazzles at The Fabulous Fox
by Tanya Seale - Dec 13, 2018

Anyone familiar with the Tony-Award-winning musical adaptation of Victor Hugo's novel Les Miserables knows it is a grand indulgence for the eyes, ears, and mind. The Cameron Mackintosh and Networks touring production (with new staging and reimagined scenery inspired by the paintings of Victor Hugo!) does not disappoint.

BWW Review: LES MISERABLES at The Orpheum
by Chris Miritello - Nov 30, 2018

There is probably little to say or write about Les Miserables that has not already been said or written. Claude-Michel Schonberg's epic musical, based on Victor Hugo's equally epic 1862 novel, first captured audiences' imaginations as a concept piece in France in 1980. Since the reimagined English language version starring Colm Wilkinson and Patti LuPone premiered in London in 1985, productions, special concert events and revivals have sprung up throughout the world, including on Broadway, where the show's original run lasted over 16 years and it has twice been revived. Les Miserables has also been adapted for film, including the 2012 musical version, which starred the likes of Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe and Eddie Redmayne, and garnered Anne Hathaway an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. Indeed, after more than 30 years as part of our cultural lexicon, Les Miserables remains a musical theater juggernaut, whose enduring themes of redemption, loyalty and love, incredible score and sheer longevity imbue it with an unmatched sense of gravitas.

BWW Review: LES MISERABLES at Rochester Broadway Theatre League
by Colin Fleming-Stumpf - Nov 21, 2018

Les Miserables has been an audience favorite for nearly 40 years for all the reasons you would imagine: its memorable, emotionally impactful characters; the songs that stick in your head; the epic battle sequences; and its timeless themes of forgiveness, morality, and love. The touring production currently playing at Rochester's Auditorium Theatre checks all of these boxes, providing a unique and emotional theatrical experience for audiences of all ages (as evidenced by the many school groups in attendance on opening night).

BWW Review: LES MISERABLES at Hippodrome Theatre
by Rowena Winkler - Oct 11, 2018

Les Miserables is a 'classic' many theatergoers have seen over and over again, with a reputation that comes with its own set of expectations. Because the show is practically timeless, new productions are faced with the challenge to come up with fresh ways to tell the story of Jean Valjean, while keeping the moments we've all grown to love intact. The latest national tour that recently opened at the Hippodrome Theatre does just that-and possibly more

BWW Review: LES MISERABLES at the Hobby Center for Performing Arts is a Dream (I Dreamed)
by Pnina Topham - Sep 27, 2018

No need to bury the lede: this production of LES MISERABLES is the most true-to-Broadway theatrical experience I have ever had outside of the Great White Way. Cameron Mackintosh's subtle updates breathe new life into the classic material, and deliver one of those rarified theatrical moments in which everything comes together as intended - the kind of show where you catch yourself holding your breath, lest you miss a moment.
