The Film Society of Lincoln Center and Film Comment Selects announced it will present a sneak preview screening of Steven Soderbergh's SIDE EFFECTS tonight, January 30 at 8:00PM. The screening will take place at the Walter Reade Theater (165 West 65th Street) and will be followed by a Q&A with Soderbergh, writer/producer Scott Z. Burns and stars Rooney Mara and Jude Law.

According to the New York Times, the Trustees of The Laurents/Hatcher Foundation, Inc. have announced that "A Kid Like Jake" has been selected for the 2013 LAURENTS / HATCHER FOUNDATION AWARD. The foundation will provide a $50,000 cash award to playwright Daniel Pearleand a grant of $100,000 to go directly towards the production costs of the play's premiere at LCT3 in June.

The Colony Theatre will present the fifth production of its 'Season of Premieres' with the Los Angeles Premiere of I'LL BE BACK BEFORE MIDNIGHT, written and directed by Peter Colley. I'LL BE BACK BEFORE MIDNIGHT will preview on Wednesday, February 6; Thursday, February 7; and Friday, February 8 at 8:00pm. Bay City Players announces the production of the Monty Python-style comedy, The 39 Steps, by Patrick Barlow from the John Buchan novel focusing on the Alfred Hitchcock mystery film to perform March 1-3 & 7-10, 2013 at the Bay City Players, 1214 Columbus Avenue, in Bay City. Performance times are 8:00 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 3:00 p.m. on Sunday. The 39 Steps is directed by Leeds Bird.

On January 17, 2013 Red Line Tours launched their second set of collectors tickets, 'Directors Series,' highlighting four celebrated and iconic film directors. The Film Society of Lincoln Center will kick off a daily radio program tomorrow from the 2013 Sundance Film Festival called Film Society's Daily Buzz with Eugene Hernandez. The daily radio show, recorded live each morning at the Village at the Lift on Main St. in Park City is hosted by the Film Society of Lincoln Center's Eugene Hernandez, a co-founder of Indiewire who is celebrating his 20th anniversary of attending the festival.

Today in 2008, The 39 Steps opend at the American Airlines Theatre, where it ran for 771 performances. The play is a farce adapted from the 1915 novel by John Buchan and the 1935 film by Alfred Hitchcock. Patrick Barlow wrote the adaptation, based on the original concept by Simon Corble and Nobby Dimon of a two-actor version of the play. The play's concept calls for the entirety of the 1935 adventure film The 39 Steps to be performed with a cast of only four. One actor plays the hero, Richard Hannay, an actress plays the three women with whom he has romantic entanglements, and two other actors play every other character in the show: heroes, villains, men, women, children and even the occasional inanimate object. This often requires lightning fast quick-changes and occasionally for them to play multiple characters at once. Thus the film's serious spy story is played mainly for laughs, and the script is full of allusions to (and puns on the titles of) other Alfred Hitchcock films, including Rear Window, Psycho, Vertigo and North by Northwest.

Kentwood Players presents the Tony Award winning comedy thriller 'The 39 Steps' now through February 16, 2013, at the Westchester Playhouse, located at 8301 Hindry Avenue in Westchester (Los Angeles). The production is directed by Ben Lupejkis, and produced by Lori A. Marple-Pereslete and Tony Pereslete by special arrangement with Samuel French.
