Applications Open For Rhinebeck Writers Retreat Summer Residencies


Kathy Evans, Founding Executive Director of Rhinebeck Writers Retreat, announced applications are open for this summer. Nine musical theatre writing teams will be awarded nine consecutive weeklong residencies in the Hudson Valley between June 30 and September 1. Each team gets a private retreat to focus solely on writing their new musical. All writers are eligible and their musical can be at any stage of development. All costs are covered including travel up to $750, and each writer gets a $500 stipend. Writers with children are welcomed to apply. There is no fee for applications received by February 6 and there is a fee of $20 for the final deadline of February 16.  More information and the online application can be found at https://www.rhinebeckwriters.org/2019-residencies.

GETTIN' THE BAND BACK TOGETHER Sets September Closing on Broadway


The producers of Broadway's Gettin' The Band Back Together, announced today that the show will close on Sunday, September 16 following the evening performance. It will have played 30 previews and 40 performances at the Belasco Theatre (111 W 44thStreet). Previews began on July 19 and the show opened on August 13. Rhinebeck Writers Retreat is presenting a private reading of the new musical, THE PROXY MARRIAGE, book and lyrics by Michele Lowe and music and lyrics by Adam Gwon, on May 7 in New York City, which includes actors Jason Tam (Jesus Christ Superstar Live on NBC, Broadway: A Chorus Line, If/Then), Whitney Bashor (The Bridges of Madison County), Anika Larsen (Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, Avenue Q), and Daniel Jenkins (Mary Poppins, Billy Elliot, Big River). The reading is directed by Lonny Price (Sunset Boulevard starring Glenn Close) and music directed by Vadim Feichtner (Falsettos Broadway revival).

Rhinebeck Writers Retreat To Receive $10,000 Grant From NEA


National Endowment for the Arts Chairman Jane Chu has approved more than $25 million in grants as part of the NEA's first major funding announcement for fiscal year 2018.  Included in this announcement is an Art Works grant of $10,000 to Rhinebeck Writers Retreat for their musical theatre writer residencies and Triple R program - 2 readings and a residency. The Art Works category is the NEA's largest funding category and supports projects that focus on the creation of art that meets the highest standards of excellence, public engagement with diverse and excellent art, lifelong learning in the arts, and/or the strengthening of communities through the arts.

All costs are covered by donations to Rhinebeck Writers Retreat, including travel up to $750.  Writers with children are welcomed to apply and Rhinebeck Writers Retreat will accommodate their housing needs. Provincetown Dramatic Arts 2016 Hit Production of Eugene O'Neill's ANNA CHRISTIE Returns to the Wharf House


???????Eugene O'Neill's celebrated Pulitzer Prize winning drama and hit of the 2016 season, is returning to the Wharf House at the Provincetown Marina for 2017. The Provincetown Dramatic Arts production of Anna Christie was selected as one of the Best Plays of 2016 and Sarah MacDonnell was honored as one of the best female performances in her role of Anna (by the Cape Cod Times). The play opens on July 13 and runs Thursday - Sunday until July 30. Margaret Van Sant, Artistic Director of the Provincetown Dramatic Arts, directs.

Rhinebeck Writers Retreat presents First Reading of BHANGIN' IT


Rhinebeck Writers Retreat is presenting the first reading of the new musical, BHANGIN' IT, book by Rehana Lew Mirza and Mike Lew and music and lyrics by Sam Willmott, on May 1 in New York City for an invited industry audience. The reading includes actors Shoba Narayan (Natasha Pierre & The Great Comet), Tony Sheldon (Amelie), Dan Rosales (Spamilton), Angel Desai (Company), and Salena Qureshi.  The reading is directed by David Ruttura (School of Rock) and music directed by James Dobinson (The View UpStairs).

Kathy Evans, Founding Executive Director of Rhinebeck Writers Retreat, announced the 17 writers and 8 new musicals selected for the fifth summer of weeklong retreats. For eight consecutive weeks beginning July 5th, each writing team will have a residency in Rhinebeck, New York. Writers are provided a private home, transportation, food, and a $400 stipend. This year's writers include Obie winner Kirsten Childs, Tony nominee Elizabeth Davis, and 2015 Jonathan Larson award-winners Charlie Sohne, Tim Rosser, and Sam Willmott, who also just won the Kleban Prize.

Kathy Evans, Founding Executive Director of Rhinebeck Writers Retreat, announced that applications are open for the fifth summer of retreats for musical theatre writers and are due February 23. Rhinebeck Writers Retreat will host 8 writing teams with 8 individual weeklong residencies in a private home in the countryside near Rhinebeck, New York. The retreats will take place between June 28 and August 30. Applications are due February 23 and the submission fee is $25.
