THE CLOCKWORK BOY, a new play by Matt Tiemstra, will receive its New York premiere in the 2016 Thespis Theater Festival at the Hudson Guild Theater. The show follows a young android named Jeremy as he desperately tries to solve the mystery of his own existence among humans. Performances will begin September 20th at 9:00 p.m. at the Hudson Guild Theater on 441 West 26th Street. Emily Garrison directs the production.

The struggles, successes, and tried and failed relationships of seven college students are all witnessed by Jeremy - a robot trying to pass as a human. In this tragicomedy, Jeremy will learn from his classmates and what it means to be alive - even with his mechanical heart.

Both hilarious and touching, Jeremy's story is an exploration of human identity and the small things that make us human. No character ever exits the stage, giving viewers full exposure to their vulnerability and development throughout the show. The Clockwork Boy uses a mixture of dialogue and American Sign Language, while stylized movement conveys the passage of time and highlights how life is a collage of small shared moments. The result evokes a breathtaking, dreamlike aesthetic .

The cast of The Clockwork Boy includes Juan Angarita, Geovanni Cedeno, Alida Delaney, Jose Gamo, Ron Orlovsky, Catherine Purcell, Patrick Semas, Sanjana Srinivasan, and Courtney Williams.

The production team includes Projection and Sound Design by Simon Jones, Costume Design by Sofia Kadieva, Light Design by Daniel Loveridge, Production Management by Jonathan West, Direction by Emily Garrison, and Script by Matt Tiemstra. The show is Executive Produced in association with Thespis Theater Festival at the Hudson Guild Theater.

Performances are at the Hudson Guild Theater at 441 West 26th Street on Tuesday 9/20 at 9pm, Wednesday 9/21 at 6:15pm, Sunday 9/24 at 6pm. Tickets are available at www.brownpapertickets.com/event/2570067. Tickets are $23 general admission.

The Hudson Guild is a New York-based multi-service community agency serving those who live, work, or go to school in Chelsea, with a focus on those in need. The Hudson Guild Theatre Company, Home of the Thespis and the Venus-Adonis Theater Festivals, provides alternate ways for those in the community to experience Live Theatre, especially those who might not otherwise have readily available opportunities to do so, according to the company's website.

The Thespis Theater Festival has evolved into the second largest of its kind in New York City in the last five years. Thespis is not only a festival but a competition for the playwrights, actors, and directors who participate in the festival's selected works. Their Playwright/Musical/Short Theater Festival runs through October 12, 2016.
