"I am so energized by the work that YMA-FSF does and am thrilled by the opportunity to lead their efforts," Evans said. "I have spent much of my career raising funds to support arts and education, and I am deeply passionate about creating these vital opportunities for the next generation of great fashion industry leaders. The future of the fashion industry is dependent on fresh and exciting talent both in design and business and the YMA Fashion Scholarship Fund will increase our efforts to identify and nurture new talent."
The YMA Fashion Scholarship Fund is a national non-profit organization made up of influential members of the fashion community. They are dedicated to promoting education of the fashion arts and businesses by granting scholarships to talented students and facilitating internships, mentorships and career programs. Last year YMA-FSF awarded approximately $1 million in scholarships and placed close to 100 interns in the fashion industry. Over $8 million in scholarships have been awarded since 1971 and 46 prestigious colleges and universities (including Indiana University, Parsons, Wharton, Harvard, Pratt Institute, F.I.T, USC, UC Berkeley, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison) have been included in the program.
Evans recently moved the YMA Fashion Scholarship Fund to new offices at 1501 Broadway (Suite 1810) in the legendary Paramount Pictures Building in Times Square after spending the past 24 months in the Empire State Building. "Our organization needs to be centrally located so that the people we work with, both the students and industry leaders, have easy access to our offices," Evans said. "Times Square, with its close proximity to the Fashion District, is the perfect location to run our operations and support our future growth."
The 2015 YMA FSF Geoffrey Beene National Scholarship Awards Dinner will take place on January 7th, 2015 at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel. Award recipients and honorees will be announced shortly.
