Off-Broadway's 'SEX TIPS' to Offer Free Tickets to Select Couples on Valentine's Day
The new hit comedy Sex Tips for Straight Women from a Gay Man will offer FREE tickets this Valentine's Day to any couple willing to admit, on stage, that they haven't had sex in over six months -- and are ready to do something about it. Our resident "Gay Man" sex expert, Dan (Jason Michael Snow) will provide some titillating tips that are sure to heat up any cold spell. Offer valid for straight and gay couples for the performance on Friday, February 14th at 10pm. Six month period without sex must include both parties without limitation ("nothing on the side -- even the pizza delivery guy"). Free tickets will be provided in-person only at the 777 Theatre Box Office (777 Eighth Avenue, between 47th and 48th Streets) beginning at 9:00pm that evening (while tickets last). All couples (ages 25 years or older) will need to tell the box office attendant that both parties have not had sex in over six months to receive a pair of free tickets. (Note: On-stage confessions and advice will be recorded).
Presented by Matt Murphy and Shawn Nightingale, Sex Tips for Straight Women from a Gay Man is a new comedy written by Mr. Murphy, based on the best-selling book by Dan Anderson and Maggie Berman. Sex Tips for Straight Women from a Gay Man is now playing Off-Broadway at The 777 Theatre (777 Eighth Avenue, between 47th and 48th Streets). Directed by Tim Drucker (writer/director of Spidermusical, co-book writer for the musical Fat Camp) Sex Tips for Straight Women from a Gay Man stars Jason Michael Snow (last seen on Broadway in Book of Mormon, and the composer, co-writer and co-producer of the current internet sensation Russian Broadway Shut Down) as Dan, Lindsay Nicole Chambers (Lysistrata Jones, Forbidden Broadway, "Submissions Only") as Robyn, and Andrew Brewer (Cougar The Musical) as Stefan.
This acclaimed new comedy is set inside a local university auditorium, where the featured event is an interactive discussion with the author of Sex Tips for Straight Women from a Gay Man. With the help of Stefan, a hunky stage assistant, author Dan Anderson encourages the shy and studious moderator of the event, Robyn, to follow her dreams while following his tips. Based on the international best-selling book, this world premiere production welcomes audiences into a fun-filled world of foolproof moves and insider advice that could only be culled from that most insightful of individuals: the gay man.
Sex Tips for Straight Women from a Gay Man was written by Dan Anderson and Maggie Berman. First published in 1997 -- before TV shows and films such as "Will and Grace," "Sex and the City" and My Best Friend's Wedding reflected the straight girl/gay guy friendship in mainstream pop culture; and years before the "Queer Eye" guys introduced the world to the notion of better living through gay advice -- the book instantly became a national best-seller. Sex Tips for Straight Women from a Gay Man was praised by The Daily News for "offering witty-and yes, explicit-descriptions of all manner of how-to's;" by The New York Post as "straightforward and saucy . . . a play-by-play account of how to make the most of every moment;" and by Salon.com as "a cannily entertaining romp through the nuts and bolts of sex from the male perspective." Now a cult classic, it has also been published in Germany, Japan, Taiwan, Brazil, the Netherlands, Australia and England, and will come out in France this spring. Recently, the book also played a supporting role in the movie Hope Springs by sparking passionate romance between the characters played by Meryl Streep and Tommy Lee Jones.
Sex Tips for Straight Women from a Gay Man began performances on January 22, 2014 and opened on February 9th. Performances are currently scheduled through June 5, 2014.
