NYTE Announces Their Kick-off Event for the 2010 Season

Join New York Theatre Experiment (NYTE) for this kick-off event of the 2010 season! The Generations Project will bring together artists and leaders, across generations, for this forum on vision, leadership and mentorship in the arts. Bring a friend, invite a mentor, and join the dialogue, as we discuss the future of our art form and our role in moving it forward.

This inspiring evening will feature speakers Seth Barrish (The Co-Artistic Director and Co-Founder of The Barrow Group), Anne Bogart (Artistic Director of the SITI Company), Virginia Louloudes (Executive Director of A.R.T./NY), and Maryellen Kernaghan (founder of Kernaghan Associates, former Artistic Director of the award-winning arts education company, Plays for Living. After the evening concludes, please join us for informal discussion, mingling and drinks.

Seth Barrish (Co-Artistic Director and Co-Founder of The Barrow Group) is an award-winning director, actor, composer, and musical director whose work has been enjoyed internationally, Off-Broadway, and regionally. His directing credits include: Mike Birbiglia's Sleepwalk With Me, David Edgar's Pentecost (Drama Desk Nomination, BEST PLAY), Martin Moran's The Tricky Part (Two Drama Desk Nominations, BEST PLAY & BEST SOLO SHOW, Obie Award), and Jon Maran's Old Wicked Songs (Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award & Garland Award for Best Direction, Pulitzer Prize Nomination), Thy Kingdom's Coming, Lonely Planet, Good (Straw Hat Award for Best Direction), Ghost in the Machine, Tales From Hollywood, Greetings, Beau Jest, Three Sisters, and When You Comin' Back Red Ryder?. He has worked at many notable theatres including The Intiman, The Promenade, McCarter, Long Wharf, Sundance Theatre Lab, The Geffen Playhouse, The Asolo Performing Arts Center, The Bleecker Street Theater, Playhouse 91, La Mama E.T.C., The Perry Street Theatre, Capital Rep, Shakespeare & Co., and The Barrow Group, and has made numerous film and television appearances. Mr. Barrish is a Master Teacher at The Barrow Group School, continuing to educate and inspire a multitude of working and student actors. He has also served as a Master Teacher at the International Director's Symposium in Spoleto, Italy. He is author of the book An Actors Companion-99 Bits of Craft.

Anne Bogart is the Artistic Director of the SITI Company, which she founded with Japanese director Tadashi Suzuki in 1992. She is a Professor at Columbia University where she runs the Graduate Directing Program. Works with SITI include Antigone, Under Construction, Freshwater, Who Do You Think You Are, Radio Macbeth; Hotel Cassiopeia; Death and the Ploughman; La Dispute; Score; bobrauschenbergamerica; Room; War of the Worlds; Cabin Pressure; The Radio Play; Alice's Adventures; Culture of Desire; Bob; Going, Going, Gone; Small Lives/Big Dreams; The Medium; Noel Coward's Hay Fever and Private Lives; August Strindberg's Miss Julie; and Charles Mee's Orestes. She is the author of three books: A Director Prepares, The Viewpoints Book and And Then, You Act.

Maryellen Kernaghan has twenty-eight years experience as a Manager, Administrator Director, Executive Director and Producer in the Performing Arts. She has been responsible for fiscal, administrative and artistic management and direction of companies and projects, while balancing resources to achieve productions of highest integrity. She has produced, directed and managed new works, negotiated contracts and collaborated with artists to build dynamic team-oriented environments for productions in theatre, musical theatre & dance. Ms. Kernaghan has directed situational dramas and acted as facilitator for national programs on workplace ethics and diversity. She has experience in advocacy for and implementation of arts education programming using current and emerging technology, designed distance learning and educational outreach programs for K-12 students as well as universities and presenting organizations, and creating new revenue streams for not for profit organizations.

Virginia Louloudes became A.R.T./New York's Executive Director in 1991. A.R.T./New York is the service and advocacy organization for New York City's not-for-profit theatre community. Its membership is made up of 400 theatres of all sizes and missions in all five boroughs. Since her arrival, the organization's budget and membership have nearly tripled. Ginny has developed a variety of programs to meet her constituents' changing needs, including two shared office and rehearsal spaces: South Oxford Space, which houses 20 companies in Brooklyn and Spaces at 520, which provides offices to 24 nonprofit arts organizations in the Fashion District. A.R.T./New York provides more than 125 technical assistance workshops and roundtables annually and last year awarded cash grants of $1.4 million to 128 theatres and made lines of credit, cash flow and real estate loans totaling $1.1 million. Following September 11th, A.R.T./New York distributed the first study on the economic impact of the attacks on the City's nonprofit theatres. Shortly thereafter the Mellon Foundation selected A.R.T./New York to distribute the theatre portion of their $50 million Andrew W. Mellon Arts Relief Fund. Before joining A.R.T./New York, Ginny was Director of Marketing at both the Roundabout Theatre Company and Manhattan Theatre Club.

New York Theatre Experiment (NYTE), founded in 2004, is dedicated to artistic exploration and innovation. Each season is guided by an "experiment," which shapes and influences the works of theatre we develop and produce, leading to an examination of the current cultural moment.

NYTE proudly serves as a creative home and developmental forum for leaders in the American theatre. We challenge artists to continually explore the creative process and offer a supportive environment for ongoing growth and development. We view each project as an experiment, an opportunity to discover new ways to bring vibrant works of theatre to full and powerful life.

NYTE is also committed to the development of the next generation of theatre artists and audiences. NYTE's unique educational programs are designed to empower and inspire, and like our productions, are intended to make theatre accessible, relevant and personal for all audiences.
