David Abeles to Join THE GREAT COMET OF 1812 as 'Pierre,' Beginning 7/9

David Abeles (Once, Original Cast Member) will take over the role of 'Pierre' in the hit downtown production ofNATASHA, PIERRE & THE GREAT COMET OF 1812 beginning Tuesday, July 9th. Dave Malloy, the show's creator, will play his final performance as 'Pierre' Friday, June 21st, as he leaves to work on several new projects including commissions from LCT3, San Francisco's American Conservatory Theater, and the Youth Musical Theater Company in Berkeley, as well as upcoming shows at the Incubator Arts Project and The Bushwick Starr. From June 22nd through July 7th, the role of 'Pierre' will be played by Luke Holloway.

David Abeles's Broadway credits include 'Eamon' in the Tony Award-winning production of Once (Eamon, also at NYTW & A.R.T.) and ' Jerry Lee Lewis' in Million Dollar Quartet (also Off-Broadway and in Chicago). Off-Broadway, he's performed in The Burnt Part Boys (Vineyard Theatre), Hell House (St. Ann 's Warehouse), and The Pursuit of Persephone (Prospect Theater Co). National Tours and regional credits include My Fair Lady(Trevor Nunn / Cameron Mackintosh), February House (W.H. Auden - New York Stage and Film), Williamstown Theatre Festival, The O'Neill. On film and TV, John Carney's Can A Song Save Your Life?, "Submissions Only", and "Law & Order, SVU." David trained at London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art and is also a Songwriter and Music Director.

NATASHA, PIERRE & THE GREAT COMET OF 1812 is currently playing a limited run through September 1st at Kazino (West 13th Street and Washington Street) a brand new venue created specifically for the show, in the heart of New York's meatpacking district, to transport audiences to a Russian supper club complete with an authentic Russian menu and bar. The show officially opened May 16th and has been honored with numerous awards and nominations including the 2013 Richard Rodgers Award for Musical Theater, a Special Citation from the OBIE Awards, five Drama Desk Award Nominations (Outstanding New Musical, Outstanding Music, Outstanding Lyrics, Outstanding Direction of a Musical, Outstanding Costume Design), two Drama League Award nominations (Distinguished Production of a Musical, Distinguished Performance - Phillipa Soo), and the Off-Broadway Alliance Award for Outstanding New Musical.

Every ticket to NATASHA, PIERRE & THE GREAT COMET OF 1812 includes a full Russian-style dinner. Regular tickets are priced at $125 with prime and premium seating available for $175 and $237.50, respectively. The playing schedule is as follows: Tuesdays at 8pm, Wednesdays at 2pm and 8pm, Thursdays at 8pm, Fridays at 8pm, Saturdays at 5:30 and 9:30pm, and Sundays at 1pm. NATASHA, PIERRE & THE GREAT COMET OF 1812 first premiered at New York City's Ars Nova in a seven-week sold out run, during which it was showered with rave reviews and landed at the top of the year's best-of lists in The New York Times, Time Out New York and The New York Post. It was one of the hottest tickets in town, but played just 39 performances. Following the Ars Nova engagement, producers Howard & Janet Kagan were approached with numerous transfer options ranging from traditional theaters to raw spaces before deciding to create a wholly original space inspired by the show itself, in partnership with Randy Weiner and Simon Hammerstein from Variety Worldwide who together created perennial New York hotspot The Box (New York, London) and its sister club, The Act (Las Vegas, Dubai).
