Italy's Dario D'Ambrosi, a radical innovator of the theater and founder of the movement called Teatro Patologico (Pathological Theater), will stage a novel version of "Romeo and Juliet" at La MaMa E.T.C (First Floor Theatre). The production opens on December 3rd and runs through December 13th.

His interpretation is meant to contrast the marvel of love with the fragility of life, the shock of the moment of total loss, and what he calls a "schizophrenia of the world." To do that, he must distill the beatiful sensuality and emotion of love into something like "the magic moment when somebody shoots you."

La MaMa Experimental Theatre is a world-renowned cultural organization led by founder Ellen Stewart. For 47 years La MaMa has passionately pursued its original mission to develop, nurture, support, produce and present new and original performance work by artists of all nations and cultures. La MaMa E.T.C. believes that in order to flourish, art needs the company of colleagues, the spirit of collaboration, the comfort of continuation, a public forum in which to be evaluated and fiscal support.
