AND I AND SILENCE Opens Tonight at Signature Theatre
Signature Theatre presents the U.S. Premiere of And I and Silence by Naomi Wallace, directed by Caitlin McLeod. The production runs now through September 14, 2014. The show opens tonight, August 25, in The Romulus Linney Courtyard Theatre at The Pershing Square Signature Center (480 West 42nd Street between 9th and 10th Avenues).
The cast includes Trae Harris (Newlyweeds, "Orange Is the New Black") as Young Jamie, Rachel Nicks ("Nurse Jackie," Life Support) as Jamie, Emily Skeggs (Fun Home, Transport) as Young Dee, andSamantha Soule (A Fable, Detroit '67) as Dee.
Two imprisoned teenagers, one black, one white, form a perilous bond. As the young women serve time, they forge a plan for survival. When the outside world proves even more dangerous than the jail itself, their private world becomes an untenable practice ground for their new lives. And I and Silence explores the fierce dreams of youth and the brutal reality of adulthood in 1950's America.
The design team includes Rachel Hauck (Scenic Design), Clint Ramos (Costume Design), Bradley King (Lighting Design), Elisheba Ittoop (Sound Design), Charlotte Fleck (Dialect Coach), and David Anzuelo (Fight Direction).Amanda Michaels is the Production Stage Manager. Supplemental programming has been set for And I and Silence. There will be post-show talkbacks on August 28, September 2 & 9. There will also be pre-show Backstage Pass discussion with a member of the creative team on September 10. All events are free.
