The Faux-Real Theatre Company in conjunction with Verse Theater Manhattan presents ALL-MALE OEDIPUS REX- A vibrant rendition of the Ancient Greek classic featuring an all-male cast directed by Mark Greenfield (FUNBOX TIMES SQUARE)

Two Performances Only! Part of Howl! Arts Project 2010 September 11 & 12 at 8:00 pm at Theatre 80 (80 St. Marks Place)

The Greeks, like us, knew that Oedipus was going to gouge his eyes out, even before the play began. And yet they still came out in droves. Come see what all the fuss was about as The Faux-Real Theatre Company in conjunction with Verse Theater Manhattan presents ALL-MALE OEDIPUS REX at Theatre 80 (80 St. Marks Place), as part of HOWL! ARTS PROJECT, for two performances only: Saturday, September 11 and Sunday, September 12 at 8:00pm. Mark Greenfield, creator of FUNBOX TIMES SQUARE, directs.

Mark Greenfield directs an all-male cast, utilizing the performance techniques of the Ancient Greeks, to present a "traditional" rendition of Sophocles' classic. History tells us that 2,400 years ago the Greeks performed in brightly colored wigs, fantastical costumes, and masks that acted as megaphones.

Incorporating the colorful aesthetic of these ancient performances and utilizing a broad physical style of acting along with live music, songs and dancing, ALL-MALE OEDIPUS REX looks beyond the "fate versus free will" interpretations of this classic, to explore the alluring underbelly of the story. The heightened approach reveals what is terrifying and vital in this most tragic of tragedies, enhancing the story's power to roil our subconscious and to awaken the heroes within.

The cast of ALL-MALE OEDIPUS REX includes Jamie Carrillo, Keldrick Crowder, Clinton Lowe, William Alex Runnels, Reynaldo Piniella, Jason Scott Quinn, Donatello DeMeo Meltz, Tony Naumovsky, Zorikh Lequidre, Alejandro Santoni, and Michael Zartman.

The production features translation by Robert Fagles; costumes by Constance Tarbox; and masks by Lynda White. The company includes Alessandro DeMeo, Assistant Director; Sylva Havrankova, Stage Manager; and Jeff Woods, musician.

Mark Greenfield is the founding Artistic Director of The Faux-Real Theatre Company, with whom he has created such shows as FUNBOX TIMES SQUARE, William Shakespeare'S HAUNTED HOUSE and HTEBCAM (A BACKWARDS RE-WORKING OF MACBETH). In addition to his work with Faux-Real, he was a writer for the Drew Barrymore film "Whip It," and the lead actor in the Amir Naderi film "Vegas: Based on a True Story" (to be released this fall). He toured the country for two-years with IMAGO the Theatre Mask Ensemble, and he played Arlecchino for five-years with the Southern Italian Commedia dell'Arte company I Giullari Di Piazza.

Performances of ALL-MALE OEDIPUS REX run at Theater 80 (80 St. Marks Place) on Saturday, September 11 and Sunday, September 12 at 8:00 PM. Running time is approximately 75 minutes. Tickets are $10. For reservations, visit wwW. Brownpapertickets.com or call 800-838-3006.
