Frist Center Executive Director Susan H. Edwards, Ph.D., was decorated today as a Chevalier dans l'Ordre des Arts et Lettres (Knight in the Order of Arts and Letters) in a ceremony at the Frist Center for the Visual Arts. The medal was presented by the Consul General of France in Atlanta, Pascal Le Deunff.

L'Ordre des Arts et Lettres is an Order of France. Established in 1957 by the Minister of
Culture and confirmed in 1963 as part of the Ordre National du Mérite (Order of National Merit) by President Charles de Gaulle, the purpose of the award is to recognize significant contributions to the arts and the culture of France. The rank of Chevalier (knight) confers membership in the Order.

In announcing the award, Consul General of Atlanta Le Deunff said, "For over 20 years, Ms. Edwards has promoted the arts from Brooklyn to Nashville, emphasizing beauty and diversity. French artists have played a special role in her career.

Since 2004, thanks to her hard work, she was able to present more than six exhibitions promoting French artists at the Frist Center," said Pascal Le Deunff. "Lately, the opening of The Birth of Impressionism: Masterpieces from the Musée d'Orsay was a true tour de force. Nashville was, indeed, one of only three cities in the world to host this exhibition."
