TR Knight Joins the Guthrie's 50th Anniversary Celebration

The Guthrie Theater today announced that stage, film and television actor T.R. Knight will appear in BEHOLD: A Gala Performance celebrating the Guthrie's 50th anniversary on June 22, 2013. Knight will return to the Guthrie--where he first appeared onstage at the age of five and was subsequently featured in productions including Ah, Wilderness! and Amadeus--for the first time since becoming a national presence on Broadway and Off-Broadway stages and in the television program "Grey's Anatomy." He is currently featured as Harold Parrott in the newly released feature film 42 about the life story of Brooklyn Dodgers player Jackie Robinson.

Knight first appeared at the Guthrie in 1978 as Tiny Tim in A Christmas Carol, and over the course of more than two decades appeared in a dozen Guthrie Productions including Philadelphia, Here I Come!, She Stoops to Conquer, Racing Demon, Ah, Wilderness and the title role in Amadeus. A number of Knight's breakout roles at the Guthrie coincided with the first years of the tenure of current Guthrie Director Joe Dowling, and the two forged a strong creative relationship in Minneapolis and New York, where Dowling cast Knight as Damis in his 1999 Broadway production of Tartuffe.

"I've had the great privilege of knowing and working with T.R. since he was a young actor," said Guthrie Director Joe Dowling. "He is a consummate stage performer and a true representation of what it means to be a Guthrie artist and it brings me enormous pleasure to welcome him back to the Guthrie stage, where his career began, to perform at this joyful event."

Knight's stage credits include Broadway productions of Noises Off, Tartuffe, and a 2010 production of A Life in the Theatre alongside Patrick Stewart. He has worked extensively Off-Broadway and was featured in a 2009 production of the musical Parade at the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles. He is well-known to television audiences for his role as Dr. George O'Malley in the hit series "Grey's Anatomy" from 2005-2009 as well as his current appearances in The Good Wife.

As previously announced, BEHOLD: A Gala Performance will he co-hosted by Guthrie favorites Greta Oglesby and Sally Wingert, and will feature Olivier Award-winner and Tony Award-nominee Tracie Bennett, an original composition by Tony Award-winning composer Jason Robert Brown, and award-winning male vocal ensemble Cantus. BEHOLD has musical direction by Andrew Cooke, choreography by Brian Sostek and is written by Mark Benninghofen. Peter Flynn-whose extensive credits include directorial work on Broadway, Off-Broadway, in regional theaters and other gala events-will direct. A star-studded performance featuring actors, composers and writers with ties to the Guthrie's past and future, BEHOLD: A Gala Performance will be held on June 22, 2013, on the Wurtele Thrust Stage and is a part of the Guthrie's 50th season weekend celebration (June 22-23, 2013).
