Steven Epp, Sarah Agnew and More Star in Guthrie's THE SERVANT OF TWO MASTERS; Full Cast Announced!
The Guthrie Theater today announced complete casting for its presentation of Yale Repertory Theatre's production of The Servant of Two Masters. Adapted by Constance Congdon from a translation of Carlo Goldoni by Christina Sibul, this comedy features Steven Epp (Guthrie: A Christmas Carol, The Caretaker; Theatre de la Jeune Lune: actor, writer, director, co-artistic director 1983-2008) as the wily servant Truffaldino and Guthrie favorite Sarah Agnew (Guthrie: Time Stands Still, The 39 Steps; Theatre de la Jeune Lune company member 1995-2001) as the strong-willed Beatrice in the story of a servant scheming to fill his pockets and his stomach by serving two masters at once.
The production will play from December 1, 2012 – January 20, 2013 on the McGuire Proscenium Stage. Former Guthrie company member Christopher Bayes (Broadway: The 39 Steps, Zibaldone, A Night of Conjuration; Guthrie: more than 25 productions as actor 1989-1995; Theatre de la Jeune Lune artistic associate 1984-89) will direct.
The Servant of Two Masters has been lauded in its previous runs at Yale Repertory and Shakespeare Theatre Company for its mastery of the spirit of commedia dell'arte, combining physical comedy and irreverent wit with a topical spirit that brings audiences palpably into its ribald spontaneity and high flung/lowbrow sensibility. Called a "bowlful of joy" by the Washington Post, the show has earned comparisons and allusions to everything from "The Sid Caesar Show" to "The Simpsons."
In addition to Epp and Agnew, The Servant of Two Masters cast also includes Liam Craig (Television: "Unforgettable," "Rescue Me"; Theater: Vineyard Theatre, Public Theater), Allen Gilmore (Arena Stage, Shakespeare Theatre), David Hanbury (Trinity Rep, Actors Theatre of Louisville; Local: Mrs. Smith Live), Chivas Michael (Off-Broadway: Lincoln Center Concert, Classic Stage Company), Jesse J. Perez (Television: "Law and Order," "Life on Mars"; Theater: Second Stage Uptown, Playwrights Horizons), Randy Reyes (Guthrie: M. Butterfly, A Midsummer Night's Dream), Don Darryl Rivera (Children's Theatre Company: Harold and the Purple Crayon; Seattle Children's Theatre), Adina Verson (Yale Repertory, Primary Stages) and Liz Wisan (Lincoln Center Theater: Other Desert Cities). The performance also includes musicians Carolyn Boulay and Aaron Halva.
The artistic team includes Christopher Bayes (Director), Katherine Akiko Day (Set Designer), Valérie Thérèse Bart (Costume Designer), Chuan-Chi Chan (Lighting Designer), Christopher Curtis and Aaron Halva (Composers), Charles Coes and Nathan A. Roberts (Sound Designers), Rick Sordelet (Fight Director), Stina Lotti (Stage Manager), Justin Hossle (Assistant Stage Manager) and Dario Tangleson (Assistant Director).
