Emily Zimmer is happy to share a new theatrical adventure, MOONSPLAINING, with Minneapolis audiences this weekend, November 13, 14 and 15. All shows begin at 9 p.m. at the Sandbox Theatre Space at 3109 E 42nd Street. MOONSPLAINING was created with the support of an Artist Initiative Grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board.

Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door, pay-as-able-option available at the door. Reservations taken at Brown Paper Tickets. More information can be found on Facebook. Questions can be directed to moonsplain@gmail.com.

What happens to the earth with the moon dies is difficult to describe. MOONSPLAINING tells the story of two eccentric scientists who would like to tell you all about it anyway. When the moon begins to behave erratically, scientists, a goddess, a TV host and woolly mammoth take audiences through an absurdly mythic and surreally scientific exploration of the earth's only satellite in order to decide what must be done.

The show was conceived by Emily Zimmer and created with the help of fellow performer, Shelby Rose Richardson. Director Jason Ballweber led the creation process. Jim Domenick provided aerial rigging and coaching. Much of the story is told with help from sound and music designed by Dan Dukich. Heidi Eckwall designed lights.

In December of 2015, Zimmer received an Artist Initiative Grant allowing her to continue circus training at Xelias Aerial Arts and to create as show that incorporates aerial technique in storytelling. Using a surreal tale from Italo Calvino's Cosmicomics, 'Daughters of the Moon' as inspiration, Zimmer created a new story that explores some of Calvino's themes, including science and consumerism, while reacting to the laughably limited presentation of women in the story.

Performed under the pressed tin ceiling of the Sandbox Theatre space, MOONSPLAINING will play for audiences of only 20 people per performance. Reservations are recommended.
