Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune, written by Terrence McNally, is a two-character romantic drama that explores themes of loneliness, intimacy, and the complexities of human connection.
The play opens in a Manhattan walk-up apartment after a one-night stand between Frankie, a cynical waitress, and Johnny, a short-order cook from the same restaurant. Over the course of the night, fueled by conversation, arguments, and vulnerability, an unexpected connection begins to develop.
