"Trying"
The acclaimed play by the award-winning playwright Joanna Glass
Opens January 5th with an extended run through
February 11th at Palm Beach Dramaworks

West Palm Beach's only resident professional theatre, Palm Beach Dramaworks continues its 7th anniversary season with Joanna Glass' acclaimed play "Trying" opening on Friday, January 5th (8PM) at their intimate downtown theatre (322 Banyan Boulevard). Special priced preview performances are slated for January 3 and 4th ( 8PM ). Due to brisk early demand for tickets, the production will perform an additional 10 performances from its previously announced schedule and now will play through February 11th.
Set in 1967, "Trying" tells the story of the internationally known Francis Biddle, Attorney General under President Franklin D. Roosevelt and Chief Judge of the Nuremberg trials. The ailing, ireful yet elegant 81-year-old struggles to come to terms with his age and failing health and soon announces that he has one year left to live. The play opens when his wife has forced upon him a new secretary, Sarah, a sensitive, plain-spoken, 25-year-old newlywed. This richly scripted story illustrates how two strangers, at two dramatically different places in their lives, can unexpectedly and forever influence each other.
"Trying", inspired by Glass' own experience as Biddle's personal secretary from 1967-1968, had its world premiere in 2004 at Chicago's Victory Gardens Theatre before moving Off-Broadway later that same year.

Directed by Nanique Gheridian the cast includes Peter Haig as Francis Biddle and Christine Carroll as Sarah. The production will feature scenery by Sean McClelland , lighting by Michael Burris and costumes by Morgan Lane-Tanner.

Joanna Glass is a nationally recognized playwright and novelist having been produced in England, Ireland, Australia and Germany. Other theatrical credits include Canadian Gothic and American Modern, Artichoke starring Colleen Dewhurst and If We Are Women starring Blythe Danner. Glass has had success on Broadway with To Grandmother's House We Go starring Eva Le Gallienne and Play Memory, directed by Harold Prince, which received a Tony Award Nomination. Her novels include Reflections on a Mountain Summer and Woman Wanted which was made into a film starring Keifer Sutherland and Holly Hunter.

(May 11th-June 10th).
