THE MOTHERFUCKER WITH THE HAT Comes to Hollywood Fringe

After 14 SOLD OUT performances and 2 EXTENSIONS, co-Producers Fayna Sanchez and Tony Gatto team up again to announce that The Motherfucker With The Hat, will be presented at The 2017 Hollywood Fringe Festival in Los Angeles CA at the Asylum @ The Underground. The show previews on Friday, June 2nd at 9pm and has another 5 performances throughout the festival. This June, LA Fringers will have another chance to see a production that is described as:

The Motherfucker With The Hat, by Steven Adly Guirgis was nominated for the Tony for best play in 2011. Set in the working class neighborhoods of New York City, we follow the story of 2 star-crossed lovers passionately trying to unravel years of codependence and addiction, as they struggle with their own flaws and explosive tempers.

Not exactly what you'd call a recipe for a sidesplitting comedy. Yet Guirgis brilliantly created a rapid-fire, poetically profane, and hilarious masterpiece. The New York Times called it, "a bruising, tragicomic apache dance of love, betrayal and indecision". USA Today said, "Funny indeed...not to mention surprising, disturbing and poignant...dark, rich comedy". The Wall Street Journal refers to the play as an "unromantically romantic comedy that keeps you laughing, then sends you home thinking".

For almost 20 years, Tony Gatto has directed various styles and genres of work, including a short Off-Broadway run of Lee Sherman's one-woman show Un-Rule-Lee in 2016. Recent productions include world premiere plays like Ovation winner Damon Chua's 1969 at Theatre/Theater; Drive by Emily Dodi at Company Of Angels; Dust by Gregory Phillips; Brother Jones by Garth Stein; as well as The Sharon Show, Fresh Meat, 365/365, Old Silent Movie, Hecho En America, Colors and many others at various theaters throughout Los Angeles and New York.

After receiving her BFA in Theatre Performance from Ohio University's School of Theatre, Fayna Sanchez moved to New York City where she worked with The Flea Theatre, The Drilling Company and The Players Theatre to name a few. She also founded a successful theatre company called Brooklyn On Foot, where she produced original & classical works for theatre festivals all over the country. In 2010 she moved to Los Angeles where she met and acted alongside Gatto in a production of Guirgis' The Last Days Of Judas Iscariot. Some of her credits include Angie Tribeca on TBS and a recent production of Collective Rage: A Play In 5 Boops at the Theatre @ Boston Court. She has produced Emmy award winning projects, 99-seat theatre and everything in between.

This production is the epitome of independent theatre. We are not a company nor have the financial support of any company or entity. We are simply a group of artists who fell in love with a masterfully written script and wanted to put on a show. We self produced this production with a small group of 9 incredibly dedicated people. Our actors can be seen on hit shows like Goliath, Fear Of The Walking Dead, Scorpion, House of Lies, and Angie Tribeca to name a few. And now we're are thrilled to bring these characters to life and, as Guirgis puts it, "Claim them. Make them ours. And give them love."

Join us as we embark on a truly thrilling journey where a simple hat found in a living room threatens multiple relationships, sobriety, and life, as we know it, in this intoxicating and elegantly vulgar look at the intricacies of love and other addictions.
