Now a much-anticipated feature of the arts centre spring programme, Roscommon Drama Festival showcases nine nights of award-winning performances by amateur groups from all over Ireland, all of who are eager to win a nomination to the All-Ireland Drama Finals. This years festival taking place from Friday 1st - Saturday 9th March represent an exciting mix of theatre offering something for all audiences, all under the eye of adjudicator, Michael Poynor. Pre-sales for this year's line-up already indicate that the Festival continues to go from strength to strength with some performances almost completely sold out. The Festival Committee, consisting entirely of volunteers from around the town and county, have approached the 2013 Festival programme with the aim of offering an eclectic mix of theatre represents older plays and playwrights (The Playboy of the Western World by JM Synge - Friday 9th March; Sharon's Grave by John B Keane - Saturday 9th March) right though to more modern plays, playwrights and subject matter (War by Roddy Doyle - Thursday 7th March; Moment by Deirdre Kinahan - Tuesday 5th March). Since it's re-launch over five years ago, Roscommon Drama Festival has become a hugely successful event on the amateur drama circuit with visiting companies travel from across the country to Roscommon. An acknowledgement of the stellar efforts undertaken by the Festival Committee was the recent announcement that Roscommon is to host the All-Ireland One Act Festival in December 2013 which will be hosted in Roscommon Arts Centre.
