The NCPA is proud to associate with Pathé Live (Paris) to bring to Mumbai the opportunity for audiences to experience international ballet productions, while also enjoying a look behind the scenes.
The Bolshoi Theatre and Pathé Live are pleased to announce La Sylphide, one of the world`s oldest surviving romantic ballets.
August Bournonville`s version is an adaptation of the 1832 French ballet of the same name, which showcased the technique of the great 19th century ballerina Maria Taglioni, and ushered in a new Romantic era of dance. Bournonville was the first choreographer to recreate La Sylphide: his version is the only one to have survived and has been regularly performed by the Royal Danish Ballet since its premiere in 1836. It remains one of his most celebrated works. Johan Kobborg, during his ballet dancer career, danced in nearly all the Bournonville ballets and became one of the world`s leading interpreters of the role of James. He finally produced his own version of the ballet for the London Royal Ballet respecting Bournonville`s style in 2005 and for the Bolshoi Theatre in 2008.
