Join the Matrix School of Theatre this fall as they present, D*Versity: A Community of Stories. Students are invited to, "Tell your story!" Specially prepared curriculums are developed for three age groups as they are guided and encouraged to tell their story of art (ages 5 - 7), cultures (ages 8 - 11), and perspectives (ages 11 - 14). All classes take place at Matrix Theatre located at 2730 Bagley in the heart of Detroit's Mexicantown. For further information, or to register for classes, call 313 967 0999, ext. 3, or visit matrixtheatre.org. "We have created some very special programs for this year's School of Theatre," said Director of Education Amy Thomas. "We expect sessions to fill up quickly, so we encourage early registration."

The Matrix School of Theatre offers youth ages 5 - 18 the unique opportunity to explore playwriting, performing, and visual arts in a safe, supportive, and diverse environment. Young artists develop literacy and social skills, along with a sense of resiliency, and the ability to peacefully resolve conflict and work as part of a team. They accomplish this by using their individual voices and talents to create original performances and works of art. All artists share their final product by performing for family and friends in the all-ages showcase.

How do we tell our story with art? Join other young artists as we use art to create and reflect! By the end of this session, you will have created original artwork to share, along with a short performance about the importance of each voice, as we create the community of our dreams. As we look toward the future of living in a world that is happy and healthy, we first need to understand each other. In this class, young artists create one-of-a-kind performances focused on the many cultures that make up our world and highlight the importance of welcoming all voices into our life experiences. How do we reach out to those most in need? How can we make sure that we actively embrace those around us? It takes openness, communication, and heart -- all of which you are sure to find at this class that teaches playwriting and performance skills!

A Story of Perspectives!

We've seen a lot in the news about Detroit and the struggles facing our community. In this class, young artists will have the chance to flip the narrative of negativity, and look for ways to address the problems they see.
