Des Moines Young Artists' Theatre hosts its inaugural FAUX 5K Saturday, January 16, to benefit their upcoming productions of ROMEO & JULIET and THE HOBBIT.

What is a Faux 5K? Everything you love about a 5K-the camaraderie, the celebration, the crazy costumes-without the running! Yes, you read that right! No running; it's January in Iowa, for crying out loud!

We invite our parents and other adult supporters to don ridiculous costumes (tutus and tights are encouraged!), put on their numbered race bib, and snap a photo at our "finish line" without ever breaking a sweat! Celebratory cheesecake and champagne provided. Prizes will be awarded for Best Solo Costume, Best Couple's Costume and Best Group Costume and more.

The Faux 5K finish line is at NOCE Jazz/Cabaret at 1326 Walnut Street in downtown Des Moines. This event is for ages 21+ only. For questions, contact David at dvancleave@dmyat.org. To register, visit DMYAT.org. Registration: $25.

DM Young Artists' Theatre is a nonprofit organization committed to (1) Introducing students and their families to the transformative power of live theatre and the arts, (2) training young performers in all areas of theatre and (3) nurturing the next generation of artists to be free-thinking, open-minded, risk-taking artists who use their awareness of their community, society and world to create thought-provoking and challenging works of art to promote social change.

Since their founding in 2008, DMYAT has provided full scale performance and design opportunities to hundreds of students from approximately 60 different schools. The 2015-2016 DMYAT season includes columbinus, Disney's High School Musical Jr., Romeo & Juliet, The Hobbit, 35MM: A Musical Exhibition (Student Directed Show), Adolescent Anarchy's bold new imagining of Fahrenheit 451 and an as of yet untitled, student devised PRIDE project.
