A WEEKEND WITH PABLO PICASSO Plays The Ricketson Theatre, Beginning 3/22

Conceived from the creative mind of LA Culture Clash's Herbert Siguenza, A WEEKEND WITH PABLO PICASSO plays The Ricketson Theatre March 22 - April 28. Drawing on the writings of iconic artist Pablo Picasso, Siguenza creates a spirited celebration of the prolific artist's life, featuring a sparkling portrayal-and live, onstage painting. In this one-man show, Pablo Picasso is portrayed by Herbert Siguenza (debut) who welcomes the audience into his studio as he spends the weekend hustling to finish several commissioned pieces of work.

A WEEKEND WITH PABLO PICASSO is directed by Todd Salovey (debut), Associate Artistic Director at San Diego REP. Salovey's direction takes the audience as art students through the colorful world Picasso creates. Set and costume design are by Giulio Cesare Perrone (debut). Perrone constructs an art studio fit for the legendary painter who dons Picasso's infamous black & white striped shirt. Lighting design is by Charles R. MacLeod (279 productions/29seasons, Grace, or The Art of Climbing, The Three Musketeers, Ring of Fire: The Music of Johnny Cash) while projection design is by Victoria Petrovich (debut). Original music compositions and sound design are by Bruno Louchouam (debut).
ABOUT THE PLAYWRIGHT: Herbert Siguenza is a founding member of the performance group Culture Clash. Along with Richard Montoya and Ric Salinas, Culture Clash is the most produced Latino theatre troupe in the United States. Founded in San Francisco in 1984, Culture Clash has performed on the stages of America's top regional theatres including the Mark Taper Forum, The Kennedy Center, The Arena Stage, The Alley Theatre, The Berkeley Repertory, Yale Repertory, South Coast Rep, La Jolla Playhouse, San Diego Rep, Syracuse Stage, The Huntington Stage and countless universities and colleges. Mr. Siguenza has co-written and or performed the following Culture Clash plays: American Night (commissioned by Oregon Shakespeare Festival), Palestine New Mexico, Water and Power, Chavez Ravine (all three commissioned by the Mark Taper Forum), Peace (commissioned by The Getty Villa), Zorro in Hell! (commissioned by the Berkeley Rep), The Birds (commissioned by the Berkeley Rep and South Coast Rep), Bordertown (commissioned by the San Diego Rep), Radio Mambo, Nuyorican Stories, Anthems, S.O.S., A Bowl of Beings, The Mission and others. As a solo writer and performer Mr. Siguenza has produced Cantinflas! and A Weekend with Pablo Picasso, currently on national tour. Mr. Siguenza also is an accomplished visual artist and has exhibited both nationally and internationally. He has a BFA in printmaking from the College of Arts and Crafts, Oakland, California. He is a recent recipient of TCG's New Generations grant and is being mentored by San Diego Repertory's Artistic Director Sam Woodhouse 2012/13.
