For their 38th season at Undermain they are creating an exciting array of diverse performance opportunities to inspire and enrich our community and support artists in North Texas. They hope to be able to offer live performances in addition to the virtual streaming videos for each production.
At Undermain, we're planning for the future. For our 37th year of cutting-edge performances, Undermain is pleased to announce the season of the feminine hero. Plays about women will comprise the four central productions that make up the season.
Undermain Theatre presents the first regional premiere of Madame Bovary, Adrienne Kennedy's new adaptation of Gustave Flaubert's classic novel. Flaubert's masterpiece Madame Bovary is the tragic, yet scintillating story of a woman who longed for a life she could never fully achieve.
Undermain Theatre is proud to present the first regional premiere of Madame Bovary, Adrienne Kennedy's new adaptation of Gustave Flaubert's classic novel. Flaubert's masterpiece Madame Bovary is the tragic, yet scintillating story of a woman who longed for a life she could never fully achieve. Emma Bovary desires the illustrious and romantic world she has only read about in books or observed from afar. As her desire grows Emma pursues it, whatever the cost, in an ultimate quest to fulfill her passion. Esteemed playwright, Adrienne Kennedy, a seminal writer of the American avant-garde, takes a fresh and exciting approach in her adaptation transforming this literary classic into a riveting and visionary work for the stage.
Let's face it: You probably have enough stuff. While deals on vacuums and toothbrushes can feel satisfying in the moment, wouldn't you rather get tickets to an unforgettable theatrical experience? That's where we come in. This Cyber Monday (i.e. today!) deals on theater tix are so good they feel like a steal. Whether it's a show you've been planning to see forever, or a deal that's just too good to pass up, today's the day to buy those tickets.
For its 36th season Undermain presents works from three award-winning mavericks of the American theatre in three premieres and a festival of new work. Season 36 will bring a world premiere science fiction thriller, a regional premiere of a blistering comedy of well-intentioned manners and an adaptation of a literary classic from a seminal writer of the American avant-garde in its first regional premiere, as well as the third installment of our festival of new American play readings, Whither Goest Thou America. Undermain's 36th year, the season of the maverick. Four new opportunities to experience Undermain onstage.
Undermain Theatre is at 3200 Main Street, Dallas + Fort Worth.
Undermain Theatre has brought cutting-edge theater to audiences in Dallas for over thirty years. The company was founded in 1984 by a group of artists who transformed a warehouse basement under Main Street in Dallas into a performance space and began producing experimental plays. Under the guidance of Founding Artistic Director Katherine Owens and Executive Producer Bruce DuBose, the company’s reputation grew in Dallas and beyond. The San Diego Union Tribune called Undermain “one of the best small theaters in America.” In 1995, during the siege of Sarajevo, Undermain was invited to tour neighboring Macedonia, where it performed to capacity crowds in Roman amphitheaters. Undermain then broadened its scope to produce six plays in New York, culminating in its original adaptation of Neil Young’s Greendale in 2008.
