With the month of love comes the ultimate Valentine…a staged reading of the cult classic film, The Princess Bride, to be presented at the Burton Leavitt Theatre on Saturday, February 18th at 2pm. Admission is free with a suggestion donation for the Windham Theatre Guild.

When Buttercup falls in love with a farm boy named Westley, a kindly grandfather sits down with his ill grandson and reads him a story. The story is a classic tale of love and adventure as the beautiful Buttercup, engaged to the odious Prince Humperdinck, is kidnapped and held against her will. It is up to Westley, the love of her life, now disguised as the Dread Pirate Roberts to save her. On the way he meets a thief, and his hired helpers, an accomplished swordsman and a huge, super strong giant, both of whom become Westley's companions in his quest to save his one true love.

The film is one of the most quoted films of all time and its cult status has been passed down for generations. It ranks on both the 100 Passions and 100 Laughs lists of the American Film Institute and was recently a critically acclaimed staged reading in Los Angeles under the direction of Jason Reitman (Juno, Up in the Air).

Enjoy an afternoon of laughs, romance and swash-buckling adventure. Come, “as you wish”, although it would be “inconceivable” to miss!

The Burton Leavitt Theatre is located at 779 Main St. Willmantic, CT. For more information please call (860) 336-8987.
