Westport Country Playhouse Hosts Special Event for Teens and Parents Tonight Alongside Premiere of OBLIVION

Westport Country Playhouse will host two special events, "Teen Night" and "Mom's Day Off," in conjunction with the World Premiere of OBLIVION, a provocative new play about parents and teenagers, and the gulf that often exists between them, by Carly Mensch, writer for Showtime's NURSE JACKIE and WEEDS, and directed by Mark Brokaw, currently helming Broadway's RODGER'S AND HAMMERSTEIN'S CINDERELLA.

TEEN NIGHT and MOM'S DAY OFF is geared to kick off the beginning of the busy school year, providing some relief before homework deadlines and afterschool activities take over, according to Tahra Millan, Playhouse director of marketing, and mother with two children.

TEEN NIGHT tonight, August 28, will offer an opportunity for teens who are interested in any aspect of theater to meet in The Playhouse Green Room for pizza and soda at 6:30 p.m., learn about the show, and have an intimate Q&A session with two young actors, Katie Broad and Aidan Kunze, who play 16-year-old friends in the production. Katie and Aidan will talk about their experiences in the professional theater business and what it's like to originate a role in a world premiere. Each teen attending will receive one complimentary OBLIVION ticket and 50% discounted tickets for their guests (parents or friends).

MOM'S DAY OFF on Saturday, August 31, 3 p.m., and Wednesday, September 4, 8 p.m., will offer tickets at $30. On Saturday, August 31, moms will kick off the performance with a mimosa toast on The Playhouse patio. On September 4, the audience is invited for a lively post-performance salon discussion of the thought-provoking play in the Smilow Lounge on the mezzanine level.

OBLIVION, set in Brooklyn's Park Slope, tells of Pam and Dixon, who take pride in their progressive approach to parenting their 16-year-old daughter Julie. When Julie won't come clean to them about where she spent the past weekend, their open-mindedness crumbles. What could she possibly be hiding? Whatever the parents imagine, nothing can prepare them for the actual truth. The play looks at the surprising choices teenagers make---and the people they disappoint---when they forge their own way in life.

The coming-of-age comedy-drama runs now through September 8. The play is appropriate for ages 13 and up due to some adult situations and language.
