In honor of their 80th anniversary season, Town Players of Newtown invites area residents to help them celebrate at their gala reception and cabaret on Saturday October 17, 2015 from 6-9 PM at the Newtown Country Club, 2 Country Club Road, Newtown.

"We're proud to say that we are one of the oldest continuously running community theaters in Connecticut," said Town Players Chairman Pam Meister. "We certainly couldn't have gotten this far without the dedication of our all-volunteer staff, as well as the many people who faithfully come to see our productions. Local theater consists of much more than simply saying, 'Let's paint the barn and put on a show!' It's a commitment of time and energy, and is truly a labor of love. For many of us, it's our 'home away from home,' and we truly are a community within the community."

Proceeds from this gala-fundraiser will go toward Town Players' capital improvement fund. One of the first projects scheduled to be completed in time for the 2016 season is resurfacing the stage at the Little Theatre on Orchard Hill Road, where the Town Players' permanent home was built in 1955 after two decades of performances at Edmond Town Hall. The stage project is being partially funded by a $1,000 grant from the Newtown Cultural Arts Commission.

The evening, hosted by Board Vice Chairman and long-time Town Players stalwart Timothy Huebenthal, will consist of live entertainment by the Phil Bowler Trio, along with comedy and song by stars of the Town Players stage. Also featured will be a silent auction and raffle, as well as a selection of tasty hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar.

Tickets for this festive fundraising event are $50 per person, and must be purchased by October 9, 2015. To reserve your spot, please send your check to Town Players, P.O. Box 211, Newtown, CT 06470. Tickets may also be purchased online at www.newtownplayers.org. Questions may be directed to info@newtownplayers.org.

Town Players' Little Theatre is a community theater, currently in its 80th anniversary season, located on 18 Orchard Hill Road, just off Route 25 (a mile north of the Sand Hill Plaza) in Newtown, Conn.
