The Hartt School Presents Britten's War Requiem
The Hartt School presents Britten's War Requiem on Sunday, May 2, at 5:00 PM, at the Cathedral of St. Joseph, 140 Farmington Avenue, Hartford, CT. The formidable talents of The Hartt School Choruses (Edward Bolkovac, director), Hartt Symphony Orchestra (Christopher Zimmerman, director), Connecticut Children's Chorus (Sallie Ferrebee and Stuart Younse, co-directors), and Hartford Chorale (Richard Coffey, director), combine to perform Benjamin Britten's War Requiem, conducted by Christopher Zimmerman. Soloists William Hite tenor, David Murray, baritone, and Jonita Lattimore, soprano, join the more than 300 vocalists and instrumentalists for this massive work. Marked by the juxtaposition of Wilfred Owen's poetry and the text of the Latin Mass, the Requiem presents in strong and poignant terms the brutality and, for Britten, futility of war. This is believed to be the first time in more than 50 years that this work has been presented in Connecticut with the full compliment of vocal and instrumental musicians as intended by Britten himself. Admission is $25 advanced, reserved preferred seating; $50 advanced admission, premium reserved seating; $20 suggested donation at the door, general seating.
