Select guests at Playhouse on Park theater this past Sunday night were the first to learn of the 2017-2018 Mainstage Series. Joined by Executive Director Tracy Flater and Co-Artistic Director Darlene Zoller, Co-Artistic Director Sean Harris spoke from the stage with fervor: "We are passionate about these pieces, and that resonates [with] the cast, crew, and design team. And because we're so intimate here, it'll bleed over into the audience. [Theater] becomes a communal experience, a beautiful event." All three Co-Founders went on to announce Season Nine at Playhouse on Park:

Musical comedy Avenue Q, Music and Lyrics by Jeff Marx and Robert Lopez and Book by Jeff Whitty kicks off the season, running September 13-October 8. Winner of the Tony Triple Crown for Best Musical, Best Score, and Best Book, this puppet-filled comedy (fit for adults only) tells the timeless story of a recent college grad who moves into a shabby New York apartment all the way out on Avenue Q. Kyle Brandt (Altar Boyz) to direct.

Running October 25-November 19 is The Diary Of Anne Frank, based upon "Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl," newly adapted by Wendy Kesselman. This gripping adaptation weaves together newly discovered writings from the diary of Anne Frank with survivor accounts to create a contemporary, impassioned story of the lives of people persecuted under Nazi rule. Ezra Barnes to direct.

Susan Haefner (The 25th Putnam County Annual Spelling Bee, Little Shop of Horrors) returns to direct Steel Magnolias, by Robert Harling, running January 10-January 28, 2018. The hilarious and heartwarming story explores the lives, loves and losses of six women. The action centers on Truvy's Beauty Parlor, in Chiquapin Parish, Louisiana, where the women are as delicate as magnolias and as strong as steel.

Intimate Apparel, Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Lynn Nottage's moving and thought-provoking drama runs February 14-March 8, 2018. In 1905, an African American seamstress supports herself by creating exquisite lingerie for wealthy Manhattan clients. When a letter arrives from a stranger, it awakens a desire within her that leads to the love that she yearned for, but it is nothing like she expected. Dawn Loveland (Proof, The Chosen), returns to direct this portrait of a young woman's determination and discovery of true intimacy.

Gleaned from the imagination of Co-Artistic Director Darlene Zoller, stop/time dance theater presents its 15th Anniversary Production, running from March 14-March 25, 2018. Zoller promises an extravaganza celebrating the early years of stop/time and a glimpse into the future of the company in a show filled with dance and live music. Audience members will leave with a smile on their face and a song in their heart.

The Playhouse is thrilled to stage the New England Premiere of The Revisionist, the off Broadway hit play by Jesse Eisenberg, star of The Social Network and frequent contributor to The New Yorker. In this comedic drama, a young science fiction writer named David journeys to Poland to stay with his 75-year- old second cousin, Maria, a widowed Holocaust survivor. While David is searching for a quiet space to unblock his creative energy so he can revise his novel, the lonely Maria is thrilled for the chance to connect. As their bond grows, David learns a profound secret about Maria's past that challenges their relationship and teaches them both about the meaning of being a family. Directed by Sasha Bratt (The Dining Room, Tuesdays With Morrie), The Revisionist runs from April 11-April 29, 2018.

The Playhouse Artistic dream team, Sean Harris and Darlene Zoller (Cabaret, Hair, A Chorus Line), are lined up to direct In The Heights, music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hamilton), book by Quiara Alegria Hudes. In The Heights tells the universal story of a vibrant community in New York's Washington Heights neighborhood - a place where the coffee from the corner bodega is light and sweet, the windows are always open and the breeze carries the rhythm of three generations of music. It's a community on the brink of change, full of hopes and dreams. In The Heights is the winner of the 2008 Tony Awards for Best Musical, Best Score, Best Choreography and Best Orchestrations.

The team at Playhouse on Park is excited for the upcoming season, especially in light of the current political and cultural climate. Zoller remarked: "You either have to challenge someone, educate them, or entertain them. Theater can be unifying, and that's the beauty of theater: that we can bring people together when they're being torn apart in other places. We pride ourselves on being able to do that in this atmosphere...whether you're on the stage, or in the audience."
