Hartt Faculty Members Remain Active In Summer Months

Although the 2009-2010 academic year is over, that doesn't stop The Hartt School's acclaimed faculty from keeping busy. Faculty members are performing and being recognized all over the world.

Composition faculty member Robert Carl recently was awarded an honorable mention by the Left Coast Chamber Ensemble 2010 Contest for his work "Quantum Dances." The piece was written for The Anatolian Trio and was premiered at the Haceteppe University National Conservatory in Ankara, Turkey, on May 27.

Lomax, the Hound of Music, the PBS children's show inspired by the early childhood curriculum of Professor John Feierabend, recently received a Parents' Choice Silver Award. According to the Parents' Choice website, the awards committees "look for products that entertain and teach with flair, stimulate imagination, and inspire creativity."

Steve Metcalf, Hartt's Director of Instrumental Studies, has a piece published in the current edition of New Music Box, the online magazine of the American Music Center. Theatre faculty members JohAnna Morrison and Malcolm Morrison are both involved with an upcoming performance of The Lion in Winter at the Monomoy Theatre in Chatham (Cape Cod) MA, July 11 through July 18. Johanna plays the role of Eleanor of Acquitaine and Malcolm directs the show. Visit www.monomoytheatre.org for more information. Acclaimed bassist Nat Reeves performs with Pharoah Sanders as part of the Warsaw Summer Jazz Days in Warsaw, Poland, on July 1. Reeves performs in the The Hartford Jazz Society's Monday Night Jazz Series on July 12 in Bushnell Park, and at the Sunken Garden at the Hillstead Museum on July 21.

Theatre Division Director Alan Rust performs the role of Tevye in the Monomoy Theatre's production of Fiddler on the Roof June 22 through July 3. Hartt Music Theatre faculty members Ralph Perkins and Michael Morris are also involved with the show. Perkins choreographed this show and Morris is the musical Director.
