Semi-Monthly Comedy Showcase THE KATES Comes to The Book Cellar

Chicago comedians and kates cast members Amy Sumpter and Denise Medina host (9/8 and 9/30 respectively) the all female comedy showcase at The Book Cellar. the kates features a semi-monthly line-up of the city's funniest, most talented comedians as well as emerging female comic performers.

The show is produced by Kelsie Huff, founder of the kates and instructor at the kates university The next shows will take place on Sept. 8th and 30th at 7 p.m. at The Book Cellar (4736-38 N. Lincoln Ave.). There is a $10 suggested donation and it is a PG-13 show. Future shows will take place on the second Friday and last Saturday of every month.

About the kates:

the kates is a nine year all female comedy showcase created by Chicago comedian Kelsie Huff. the kates shows take place the first Thursday of the month at The Laugh Factory and the second Friday and last Saturday of the month at The Book Cellar. the kates mission is to showcase talented and hilarious female identified performers by creating inclusive and positive environments; which encourages artists to express their comic point of view in unique and non-apologetic ways - proving that women are equal in the eyes of comedy!

the kates launched the kates university in 2017 which includes adult storytelling, stand-up classes, all female stand-up classes, corporate comedy workshops, college comedy intensives and youth outreach programs. We're only a block away from the Western CTA Brown Line Station at Western and Leland. Just exit the station and head east toward Lincoln Avenue, then make a left. A number of bus lines pass through the area, many stopping at the Brown Line Western Station. We're also about a 15 minute walk from the Ravenswood Metra station, on the UP-N line.

Limited parking is available at the meters located along Lincoln Avenue, across the street from The Book Cellar. There are also two public parking lots with parking meters right around the corner. One is just outside the CTA Brown Line Western Station, and the other is across the street at the corner of Western and Leland. A third lot is a few blocks south on Lincoln Avenue, across from the Old Town School of Folk Music.
