Duplicity Ensemble's new musical, Marble, GA, is being performed as part of the second annual Chicago Musical Theatre Festival produced by Underscore Theatre. This original rock musical is conceived and composed by local musician Baby Money (a.k.a. Pamela Maurer) and devised by Duplicity Ensemble and the cast.

The play starts out with a young woman receiving word that her distant uncle has passed away, summoning her to the rural Georgia town of Marble, home of the mythic Georgia Guidestones. When she arrives, the mystery of the Guidestones teaches her more about her family and herself than she ever imagined. Following a shifting cast of characters, audience members find themselves on a romp through history, mystery, and confronted with the question: What do you believe?

The cast of Marble, GA includes Emily Draffen, Annemarie Friedo, Meg Palermo, Lizzie Schwarzrock, Kyle Whalen, and Kegan Witzki. The creative team includes Nathan Wonder as Director, Anna Zerwer as Assistant Director, and Annaleah Tubbin as Choreographer.

Duplicity Ensemble was founded by four Chicago-based artists on October 11, 2013. Pamela Maurer serves as the resident composer, Annaleah Tubbin as the choreographer, Anne Walaszek as the playwright, and Nathan Wonder as the Artistic Director. These four are establishing a unique theatrical aesthetic which seeks to explore the lies we tell ourselves and the challenges we face that come from within.

In just over a year, Duplicity Ensemble has produced five original productions. They began in early 2014 with Anne Walaszek's Folk Bound, a new fairy tale exploring what it means to be home. The ensemble was then invited to produce I Have Been to the Wild Wood - a new musical about our deepest fears - at the first annual Chicago Musical Theatre Festival produced by Underscore Theatre. Last fall Anne Walaszek's two person play about anxiety in relationships called Lamp Oil made a splash at the Chicago Fringe Festival. After its critically-acclaimed first season, Duplicity Ensemble continued building on their early successes with an even more ambitious line-up, starting out with the modern Shakespeare mash-up A Midwinter Night's Tale. Season 2 continues with Marble, GA, a new rock musical by resident composer Baby Money (AKA Pamela Maurer). Stay tuned to learn more about Duplicity Ensemble's next play: William Shakespeare Lives or William Shakespeare, a 30 year-old playwright who lives in Chicago's Edgewater neighborhood, has just opened his new play, Titus Andronicus, and it was not well reviewed; a comedy in 3 acts.
