CPAA Theatres Ltd. presents "Kunlun Myth," an original musical from producer Wang Yu, at the Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University, today, Sept. 2 and tomorrow, Sept. 3 at 7:30 p.m. Ancient and modern concepts combine with inspiring vocals, an eclectic mix of music styles from China and the West including pop, rock and hip hop, exciting choreography and magnificent scenic design for this magical love story about forgiveness set in heaven and on earth in the mythical Kunlun Mountains. "Kunlun Myth," will be performed in Chinese with English subtitles.

"Kunlun Myth" begins in the Kunlun Mountains, a location often depicted as a pillar of the sky for the Earth. The story follows Deng Fei, a college student from Beijing, who visits the mythical mountains. Once there, he meets Mei Duo, the daughter of the Heaven Pillar tribe's chief and discovers the relic of the Heaven Pillar. As he recites the pillar's inscription, he finds himself unexpectedly pulled into heaven.

There he finds the Queen Mother of the West and other gods are attempting to have Gong Gong (a water god known in Chinese mythology for causing cosmic catastrophes) rebuild the Heaven Pillar he had knocked down. Deng Fei sees it is beneficial for mankind to rebuild the Heaven Pillar and returns to earth where he hopes to live a happy life. However fate intervenes and ultimately, to safeguard the world, he and Mei Duo realize they must forever remain apart.

The design team for "Kunlun Myth" includes Don Franz (chief director), Wang Yu and Liu Jingyun (book and lyrics), Liu Zhou (music producer) and Yang Binyin (music composition). "Kunlun Myth" premiered in 2012 as the first Chinese original musical, performed by the Musical China Theatre Troupe. Since then, the show has garnered considerable acclaim with more 100 performances, and touring and international versions.
