LES MISERABLES, A WINTER'S DREAM and More Set for CPCC Arts' Fall 2013 Season

Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC) Arts, comprised of CPCC Theatre, CPCC Opera Theatre and CPCC Dance Theatre, has announced its fall 2013 season to the Charlotte community.

During the upcoming season, CPCC Theatre, CPCC Dance Theatre and CPCC Opera Theatre will collaborate to present the Broadway musical "LES MISERABLES" in commemoration of the college's 50-year anniversary.

In addition to this special production, the troupes will also present a host of other performances that will delight and entertain audiences of all ages. The fall 2013 performance schedule is as follows:

CPCC Theatre
"The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds"
September 27-October 6, 2013, Pease Auditorium

CPCC Theatre kicks off its season with this 1971 Pulitzer Prize winning drama, Hailed as one of Broadway's greatest successes, "The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds" is an intense piece that studies an embittered, vindictive widow and her two young daughters as they try to cope with theirabysmal status in life. This powerful family drama is a must-see production.

CPCC Theatre, CPCC Dance Theatre and CPCC Opera Theatre
"LES MISERABLES"
November 15-24, 2013, Halton Theater

For the first time in the college's history, CPCC Theatre, CPCC Dance Theatre and CPCC Opera Theatre will collaborate to perform "LES MISERABLES" in honor of CPCC's 50-year anniversary. As the world's longest-running musical, "LES MISERABLES" has thrilled audiences around the globe with its powerful affirmation of the human spirit.

CPCC Dance Theatre
"Summer's Harvest"
September 6-8, 2013, Pease Auditorium

Featuring choreography by CPCC dance faculty members Clay Daniel and Katharyn Horne, "Summer's Harvest" will feature a restaging of "Peasant Pas de Deux" from the first act of the romantic ballet "Giselle" and Ron Sequoio's "Rondo for Seven." Audience members will also enjoy seeing the premiere of "Keetoowah Dawn," a dance drama that incorporates narration, singing and drumming inspired by the N.C. Cherokee.

"A Winter's Dream"
December 6-8, 2013, Pease Auditorium

Spend the holidays with CPCC Dance Theatre, as CPCC faculty member Kathryn Horne presents Fredrick Ashton's "Les Patineurs," a one-act ballet that depicts a Victorian Skating Party. Because the performers are essentially representing ice skaters, the dancer's movements feature a variety of combinations as they glide, leap and spin across the fictional ice.
