The Ware Center to Host Free Brass Music & Modern Art Show, 12/4

The Ware Center in downtown Lancaster invites the community to enjoy free brass music and modern art on First Friday, December 4 from 6 - 8 p.m. The Ware Center is located at 42 N. Prince Street, Lancaster. This is a FREE event, open to the public. No tickets are required.

Artwork by Matt Allyn Chapman will be on display in the Regitz Gallery 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. (and will continue to remain on display until January 30, 2016). The works in this collection explore the physical applications and the conceptual conditions of pressure in it's many forms. The many variations and intricacies of pressure, its ability to contain, compress, and paralyze, and also its ability to provoke movement, spark change, and build momentum will all be explored.

Working from relationships observed in his day-to-day, whether a conversation between two people, discarded objects on the street, or the play of light off a building, Matt Allyn Chapman finds a way to speak to the these subtle relationships through a language of geometric abstraction and considered mark making. He was born in Westminster, Maryland where grew up split between the quiet current of a rural community, and the din of nearby Baltimore City. He received his B.F.A. from Pennsylvania College of Art & Design and his M.F.A from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. Currently, he continues to split his time between Lancaster, where he lives, creates, and teaches, and Philadelphia, where he keeps a studio as a founding member of the artist collective Eight+ (8+) and is Associate Director of Pentimenti Gallery.

FREE Concert | QuintEssentially Brass

Performing live in the lobby will be five-piece brass ensemble QuintEssentially Brass, beginning at 6 p.m. Their music covers the gamut from Baroque to Jazz, and from Sacred to Secular. Band members are Doug Albert, Trumpet; Gene Clark, Trumpet; Kristen Albert, French Horn; Andy Walls, Trombone; and Geoff Davis, Tuba.

Founded in 2009, the Lancaster-based ensemble is devoted to surprising and delighting their audience by presenting the best in the brass quintet repertoire. Spanning five generations, the musicians believe that making great music takes hard work-but must always be fun for them and a delight for their audience.
