Glimmerglass Festival’s MEDEA Announces Cast Change

The role of Jason in The Glimmerglass Festival's production of Medea will now be sung by Glimmerglass Young Artist Jeffrey Gwaltney. Jason Collins, who has performed the role since Medea opened July 8, has withdrawn from the production due to an injury.

Gwaltney may be seen as Officer Christopher Snow in the world-premiere production of A Blizzard On Marblehead Neck at Glimmerglass and has recently performed with Washington National Opera, Opera North, Central Piedmont Opera and Lancaster Opera.

Medea features Alexandra Deshorties in the title role and David Pittsinger as King Creon. The production runs through August 16 in The Glimmerglass Festival's Alice Busch Opera Theater in Cooperstown, New York. Visit www.glimmerglass.org for tickets and information.

The Glimmerglass Festival's Young Artists Program was established in 1988. A training program for young singers, the program brings singers and accompanists in the first stages of their professional careers to study and perform in the creative and demanding atmosphere of Glimmerglass. Young Artists are chosen annually from more than 700 applicants. The three-month summer program focuses on education through performance, which comes from opportunities to cover and perform appropriate roles in mainstage productions and perform in the company's Meet Me at the Pavilion concert series. In addition to performing, Glimmerglass Young Artists receive musical coachings and attend classes and workshops in diction, acting, audition technique and role preparation.
