Jennifer Holliday

Coming up this week, 54 BELOW, the performance venue located just below the legendary Studio 54 at 254 West 54th Street, presents some of the brightest stars from Broadway, cabaret, jazz and beyond, including Jennifer Holliday, Chita Rivera, Jeff Daniels, Steve Kazee, After Midnight Swings the Holiday and more. Details below!

STRIKING 12- THE GROOVELILY MUSICAL, December 23 & 24 at 7PM:

The indie pop-rock band GrooveLily returns to New York City this season for the first time in three years to spread some holiday warmth on cold winter nights, performing their critically acclaimed, secular holiday musical, STRIKING 12. In STRIKING 12, an over-worked and under-inspired single guy who's had enough of holiday cheer makes a New Year's Eve resolution: to stay home and go to bed early. On another New Year's Eve, a continent away-and more than a century earlier-Hans Christian Andersen's Little Match Girl tries unsuccessfully to sell her matches in the snow. The two stories are brought together when an incandescent salesgirl shows up at the grumpy man's door with the promise to chase away his winter doldrums. Combining pop-rock, musical comedy and old-fashioned uplift with a healthy dose of 21st-century skepticism, STRIKING 12 weaves together three stories, set in contemporary New York City, 19th century Denmark, and the very room in which the show is presented. $35-50 cover charge. $25 food & beverage minimum.

AFTER MIDNIGHT SWINGS THE HOLIDAY!, December 23 at 9:30PM:

For one night only, the stunning cast of After Midnight (including special guest stars Fantasia & Dule Hill!) takes to the 54 Below stage in celebration of the holidays. Expect favorite tunes of the season alongside contemporary jazz licks & some red hot tap dancing, performed by a company that includes top-flight singers, dancers & musicians. It's the new Broadway musical that catapults the greatest music of Duke Ellington and Harlem's Golden Age into the 21st century that The New York Times calls "hot, sweet & altogether glorious. You'll be in seventh heaven!" Get up close & personal with this brilliant ensemble when they leave the Brooks Atkinson behind for the intimacy of live cabaret! A benefit performance for the Make a Wish Foundation. $30-40 cover charge. $25 food & beverage minimum.

The 2012 Tony Award winner for his performance as Guy in Once returns to 54 Below! Audiences will also get to hear the songs Steve originated in Once on Broadway, live- as well as a festive Christmas tune or two. In addition to winning the 2013 Grammy for Musical Theater Album for Once, Broadway has embraced Steve in roles including Sir Lancelot in Monty Python's Spamalot, Starbuck, opposite Audra McDonald, in Roundabout's 110 in the Shade, To Be or Not to Be at MTC, and Edward Albee's Seascape. $30-40 cover charge for 12/24, $40-50 cover charge for 12/26. $25 food & beverage minimum.
