On last night's REAL SPORTS on HBO, host Bryant Gumbel used his closing commentary to say farewell to announcer Vin Scully. Watch the segment below!

Closing commentary: "Finally tonight, a fast and fond farewell to Vin Scully, inarguably the best play-by-play man that sports has ever seen or heard. A Dodgers fixture since he was just 22 years old, Scully, who's now 88, has decided that it's time to drop the mic after an unmatched broadcasting career. One that has earned him a deserved place in baseball's Hall of Fame...and made him the most popular Dodgers personality of all time, an honor that Scully downplayed when I had the pleasure of profiling him for this show back in 2005.

Scully always worked alone, without an analyst or color man, and subscribed to three constants: keeping personal opinions to himself, avoiding silly 'oh my' catchphrases, and not criticizing players or umpires.

Back in '05, our profile of Vin Scully ended in a fashion that now seems fitting, over a decade later. It's his response to my asking him if he thought about retirement or even feared it."

Oddly enough, in old time baseball, the guy who caused his team to lose was often referred to as the goat. But in Scully's case, GOAT is a modern acronym he richly deserves because in his profession, Vin is certainly the 'Greatest Of All Time.'"
