Welcome to BWW TV World's new daily ON THIS DAY series celebrating series premieres and special events that took place on this day in television history!

On November 27, 1980 ABC debuted the comedy series BOSOM BUDDIES, starring Tom Hanks and Peter Scolari. Created by Robert L. Boyett, Thomas L. Miller and Chris Thompson the series ran from 1980 to 1982. The show featured the misadventures of two single men, Kip Wilson (Hanks) and Henry Desmond (Scolari), working in creative advertising, struggling in their industry while disguising themselves as women in order to live in the one apartment they could afford. Gender stereotypes and male/female interpersonal relationships were frequent themes. Though the show started out with good ratings, it failed to hold the public's interest and was canceled after two seasons.

In addition to Hanks and Scolari, the cast included Donna Dixon as Sonny Lumet, Wendie Jo Sperber (Amy Cassidy), Holland Taylor (Ruth Dunbar), Telma Hopkins (Isabelle) and Lilly Sinclair (Lucille Benson).

Below, check out the show's opening sequence which features Billy Joel's 1978 single, 'My Life.'
