The American Film Institute Appoints Juli Goodwin as New Chief Communications Officer

The American Film Institute (AFI) has appointed industry veteran Juli Goodwin as its new Chief Communications Officer. Goodwin brings more than 25 years of experience in marketing and publicity to AFI, most recently as Executive Vice President of Domestic Publicity for Warner Bros. Pictures. Goodwin will serve on AFI's senior management team, leading communications strategies for AFI's national arts and education programs.

"Juli's commitment to AFI is a seismic moment in the history of the Institute," said Bob Gazzale, AFI President & CEO. "Her peerless experience and passion for the art form will serve to strengthen AFI's national mandate - to educate today's audiences and tomorrow's artists."

"I am truly honored to join this historic organization and have the chance to work with Bob and his talented team," said Goodwin. "I have long admired the good work done by the AFI on behalf of our industry and their commitment to educating future storytellers. I am thrilled to join them in that mission."

Goodwin held a leadership position at Warner Bros. beginning in 2000, joining the studio as a Vice President of Domestic Publicity. She was promoted to Senior Vice President in 2004, took over the Domestic Publicity department in 2007 and was subsequently promoted to Executive Vice President in 2011. She held that title until she left the studio in March of 2018. During her tenure, she was responsible for strategic planning and execution, along with her team, of the publicity campaigns for the studio's slate of films. She worked closely with a broad range of filmmakers on successful campaigns for films including THE MATRIX, MYSTIC RIVER, THE DARK KNIGHT, INCEPTION, GRAVITY, MAD MAX: FURY ROAD, AMERICAN SNIPER, WONDER WOMAN and last year's Best Picture nominee DUNKIRK. Her team also secured Best Picture Academy Award® wins for ARGO and MILLION DOLLAR BABY. Goodwin started her career at Clein + White and later joined Fine Line Features as Vice President of Publicity and Promotions. She received her BA in Psychology from Loyola Marymount University.
