Variety reports that SMASH's showrunner Joshua Safran has started development on two new projects: ROYAL for FOX and SOCIAL CIRCLE on ABC.

Read the original report here.

ROYAL is a soap opera about a woman in the royal family who is tossed out after she is caught having an affair and begins working as an assistant to designer Thomas King.

SOCIAL CIRCLE is a thriller that follows a group of 20-somethings who thrive in a virtual world but eventually realize they known nothing about one another. Safran will be reuniting with GOSSIP GIRL's Stephanie Savage for the project.

Safran is well known for his role as executive producer and showrunner for NBC's two-season musical drama SMASH, as well as producer and writer of The CW's GOSSIP GIRL.

Shooting is now underway for Safran's remake of ENDLESS LOVE, based on the 1981 film.
