NINE's Antonio Banderas to Portray Fashion Icon Gianni Versace in Upcoming Biopic

Vogue reports that Antonio Banderas will take on the role of fashion icon Gianni Versace in an upcoming biopic. The actor recently revealed his love of fashion by enrolling at Central Saint Martins to study menswear design.

Bille August will direct the film, set to begin production in Milan this December. Filming is also expected to take place in Versace's birth place, Reggio Calabria, as well as in Miami, FL, where the designer was murdered in 1997.

Banderas received a 2003 Tony nomination for his performance in the musical NINE, in which he took on a Fellini-like character. He also who picked up a Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Actor in a Musical that same year. Other film credits include Assassins, Evita, Interview with the Vampire, Philadelphia, Desperado, The Mask of Zorro and Spy Kids. Banderas also portrayed the voice of "Puss in Boots" in the Shrek sequels and Puss in Boots.
