NBC's THE VOICE Grows to Most-Watched Telecast Since March

NBC's "The Voice" has delivered two of the week's top six rankings in adults 18-49 among primetime telecasts on the Big 4 networks for the week of April 20-26, according to "live plus same day" viewing figures from Nielsen Media Research, with NBC averaging a 1.2 rating, 4 share in adults 18-49 and 5.5 million viewers overall for the week.

The Monday and Tuesday editions of "The Voice" tied each other for the #5 ranking of the week among primetime shows on ABC, CBS, NBC and FOX in adults 18-49. Those "Voice" telecasts also accounted for four of the week's top five Big 4 primetime shows in adults 25-54 and four of the top six in total viewers.

For the 2014-15 season to date, NBC ranks #1 or tied for #1 among the Big 4 networks in adults 18-49 as well as men and women 18-49 and adults, men and women 18-34.

In total viewers, NBC is #2 for the season, and running within 7% of its year-ago Olympics-boosted average (8.8 million vs. 9.5 million), making this season and last NBC's two top-scoring seasons in total viewers at this point since the 2006-07 season. This is the second year in a row NBC has ranked #2 in total viewers at this point in the season, marking first two times since 2003-04 that NBC has ranked higher than #4 in total viewers at this point.

Primetime averages for the week of April 20-26 in adults 18-49 are: ABC, 1.9/6; CBS, 1.3/4; NBC, 1.2/4; Fox, 1.0/3; and CW, 0.6/2. In overall total viewers, the weekly averages were: CBS, 8.4 million; ABC, 7.4 million; NBC, 5.5 million; Fox, 3.4 million; and CW, 1.6 million.

"Most current" averages for the season to date are: NBC, 2.5/8; CBS, 2.4/7; ABC, 2.2/7; Fox, 2.0/6; and CW, 0.8/3. In overall total viewers, the season averages are: CBS, 11.4 million; NBC, 8.8 million; ABC, 7.9 million; Fox, 6.0 million; and CW, 2.1 million.

NBC highlights for the week of April 20-26:

Monday

NBC finished #1 for the night in adults 18-49, adults 25-54 and other key demos with the #1 show of the night in those measures, "The Voice."

"The Voice" (2.6/8 in 18-49, 10.6 million viewers overall from 8-10:01 p.m. ET) ranked as the #1 show of the night on the Big 4 in adults 18-49, as well as adults 18-34, adults 25-54 and all key adult-female demos. "The Voice" maintained 100% of its 18-49 rating for the third Monday live telecast of the prior cycle (2.6 on Nov. 24) and grew +10% versus that fall telecast in total viewers (10.6 million vs. 9.6 million).

"Live Plus Three Day" Ratings: "The Voice" grew by +20% in 18-49 rating going from "live plus same day" to "live plus three day" Nielsens (from a 2.61 rating to a 3.13) and by 1.6 million viewers overall (from 10.6 million to 12.2 million).

"Live Plus Seven Day" Ratings: Season to date, first-run editions of Monday's "Voice" have grown in L+7 vs. L+SD by +25% in 18-49 rating (from a 3.41 to a 4.27) and 2.2 million viewers overall (12.3 million to 14.5 million).

"The Night Shift" (1.3/4 in 18-49, 5.4 million viewers overall from 10:01-11 p.m. ET) equaled the prior week's rating in adults 18-49 (1.3 vs. 1.3) and finished within 0.1 of the slot lead among ABC, CBS and NBC, reducing a deficit that stood at 0.3 the previous week (1.3 vs. 1.6 for CBS's "NCIS: Los Angeles" on April 13). L+3: "The Night Shift" grew by +30% in 18-49 going from L+SD to L+3 (1.27 to 1.66). In total viewers, "Night Shift" grew by more than 1.3 million persons (from 5.4 million to 6.7 million). L+7: "The Night Shift" has increased by an average of +38% in 18-49 rating this season (from a 1.36 to a 1.88) and 1.7 million viewers overall (5.5 million to 7.2 million) going from L+SD to L+7.

Tuesday

NBC ranked #1 Tuesday night in adults 18-49 and was #1 or tied for #1 among the Big 4 networks in all other key measures, with "The Voice" the #1 show of the night on those networks in adults 18-49 and "Chicago Fire" tied for #2.

"The Voice" (2.6/9 in 18-49, 11.2 million viewers overall from 8-9 p.m. ET) grew +4% versus the prior week in 18-49 (2.6 vs. 2.5) and was up +5% in total viewers (11.2 million vs. 10.7 million). It was the most-watched telecast of "The Voice" on any night of the week since Monday, March 30 (11.7 million). "The Voice" was the #1 Big 4 telecast of the night in adults 18-49, total viewers and most other key measures - adults, men and women 25-54; men and women 18-49; and adults and women 18-34. L+7: Originals of Tuesday's "Voice" have grown by an average of +25% in 18-49 rating this season (from a 3.34 to a 4.17) and 2.1 million viewers overall (12.6 million to 14.7 million) going from L+SD to L+7.

"Undateable" (1.4/4 in 18-49, 4.9 million viewers overall from 9-9:30 p.m. ET) ranked #2 in the slot among the Big 4 networks in adults 18-49 and most other key measures and tied for #1 in adults 25-54 (with a 1.9 rating) and was #1 outright among those nets in women 25-54 (2.2). L+7: "Undateable" is increasing by an average +19% in 18-49 rating (from a 1.62 to a 1.93 and 643,000 viewers overall (5.5 million to 6.2 million) going from L+SD to L+7.

"One Big Happy" (1.1/3 in 18-49, 3.8 million viewers overall from 9:30-10 p.m. ET) maintained 100% of the prior week's adult 18-49 rating (1.1 vs. 1.1) and was up +5% in total viewers (3.8 million vs. 3.6 million). In the time period, "One Big Happy" ranked #2 or tied for #2 among the Big 4 nets in adults and men 18-49; adults, men and women 18-34; and women 25-54. L+7: "One Big Happy" originals are increasing by an average +23% in 18-49 rating (from a 1.33 to a 1.64) and 693,000 viewers overall (4.4 million to 5.1 million) going from L+SD to L+7.

"Chicago Fire" (1.6/5 in 18-49, 6.7 million viewers overall from 10-11 p.m. ET) maintained 100% of its prior original that did not benefit from a "Voice" lead-in (1.6 on March 17) and equaled the top "Chicago Fire" rating on a night with no "Voice" lead-in since Jan. 7 (1.7). This week's "Chicago Fire" ranked #1 or tied for #1 among the slot's ABC-CBS-NBC dramas in every key demo and tied for the #2 telecast of the night on the Big 4 in adults 18-49. "Chicago Fire" originals have now won the time period five consecutive times among ABC, CBS and NBC in adults 18-49. L+7: "Chicago Fire" first-runs have increased by an average +60% in 18-49 rating (from a 1.87 to a 3.00) and 3.5 million viewers overall (7.6 million to 11.1 million) going from L+SD to L+7.

Wednesday

"The Mysteries of Laura" (1.0/3 in 18-49, 6.4 million viewers overall from 8-9 p.m. ET) grew by +11% in 18-49 (1.0 vs. 0.9) and +4% in total viewers (6.4 million vs. 6.2 million) versus its prior first-run telecast on April 1. L+7: "The Mysteries of Laura" originals are growing by +32% in 18-49 rating (from a 1.27 to a 1.68) and 1.8 million viewers overall (7.7 million to 9.5 million) going from L+SD to L+7.

An encore telecast of "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" (0.8/2 in 18-49, 3.8 million viewers overall from 9-10 p.m. ET) grew by +14% from half-hour to half-hour in adults 18-49 (0.7 to 0.8), by +22% in adults 25-54 (0.9 to 1.1) and by +23% in women 25-54 (1.3 to 1.6).

A rebroadcast of "Chicago P.D." (0.9/3 in 18-49, 4.2 million viewers overall from 10-11 p.m. ET) increased by +13% versus the prior week's encore in 18-49 (0.9 vs. 0.8).

Thursday

An encore telecast of "The Blacklist" averaged a 0.5/2 in 18-49 and 3.4 million viewers overall from 8-9 p.m. ET.

"The Blacklist" (1.5/5 in 18-49, 7.5 million viewers overall from 9-10:01 p.m. ET) built on its lead-in by +200% in 18-49 (1.5 vs. 0.5) and +117% or more than 4.0 million persons in total viewers (7.5 million vs. 3.4 million). With its first original telecast in three weeks, "The Blacklist" matched its prior first-run episode in adults 18-34 (0.7) and adults 25-54 (2.2) and is up +13% in women 18-34 (0.9 vs. 0.8). L+3: The prior "Blacklist" original on April 2 grew by +84% in L+3 vs. L+SD in 18-49 rating (1.59 to 2.93) and increased in total viewers by 4.5 million persons (7.7 million to 12.2 million). Those were the biggest increases of the night on the Big 4. L+7: This season, originals of "The Blacklist" are increasing by an average of +70% in 18-49 rating (from a 2.56 to a 4.36) and 5.8 million viewers overall (10.0 million to 15.8 million) going from L+SD to L+7. Upscale: "The Blacklist" was the night's most upscale non-sports show on the Big 4, indexing at 132 among in adults 18-49 living in homes with $100K+ incomes, and also had the most educated 18-49 audience, indexing at a 133 among adults 18-49 with four or more years of college (100 represents an average concentration of those homes, L+SD).

"Dateline NBC" (0.9/3 in 18-49, 5.7 million viewers overall from 10:01-11 p.m. ET) hit a five-month high for NBC in the time period in total viewers, the network's biggest audience in the slot since "Peter Pan Live!" averaged a 7.3 million viewers in the hour on Dec. 4, 2014. "Dateline" is up +3% week to week in total viewers (5.7 million vs. 5.5 million). L+3: The previous week's Thursday "Dateline" increased in L+3 vs. L+SD by +22% in 18-49 rating (1.10 to 1.34) and in total viewers by 863,000 persons (5.5 million to 6.4 million).

Friday

"Grimm" (1.0/4 in 18-49, 4.7 million viewers overall from 8-9 p.m. ET) equaled the prior week's rating in adults 18-49 and grew +3% week to week in total viewers (4.7 million vs. 4.5 million), +14% in men 18-49 (0.8 vs. 0.7), +8% in women 18-49 (1.3 vs. 1.2), +7% in adults 25-54 (1.5 vs. 1.4), +9% in men 25-54 (1.2 vs. 1.1) and +6% in women 25-54 (1.8 vs. 1.7), despite special competition this week from ABC's "Shark Tank." L+3: The previous week's "Grimm" increased in L+3 vs. L+SD by +71% in 18-49 rating (0.98 to 1.68) and in total viewers by more than 1.9 million persons (4.5 million to 6.5 million). L+7: "Grimm" first-runs are growing by an average of +86% in 18-49 rating (from a 1.19 to a 2.21) and 2.7 million viewers overall (4.9 million to 7.6 million) going from L+SD to L+7.

"Dateline NBC" (0.9/3 in 18-49, 4.4 million viewers overall from 9-11 p.m. ET) equaled the previous week's 9-11 p.m. rating in 18-49 (0.9 vs. 0.9 on April 17 with a 9-10 p.m. repeat and a 10-11 p.m. original), despite this week's competition from a special edition of "20/20." From its first half-hour to its fourth, "Dateline" increased by +43% in adults 18-49 (0.7 to 1.0) and +36% in adults 25-54 (1.1 to 1.5). L+3: The prior week's Friday "Dateline" grew in L+3 vs. L+SD by +21% in 18-49 rating (1.01 to 1.22) and in total viewers by 724,000 persons (5.3 million to 6.0 million). ). L+7: Friday's "Dateline" is increasing by an average of +24% in 18-49 rating (from a 1.23 to a 1.53) and 934,000 viewers overall (6.1 million to 7.1 million) going from L+SD to L+7.

Saturday

NBC Sports coverage of Stanley Cup Playoff hockey, featuring the NASHVILLE Predators at the Chicago Blackhawks (0.8/3 in 18-49, 2.4 million viewers overall from 8-11:05 p.m. ET) won the night among ABC,CBS, NBC and FOX in adults 18-49, as well as adults 18-34, adults 25-54 (tie) and all key adult-male demos. The hockey coverage tripled in rating from its first half-hour to its sixth in adults 18-49 (from a 0.4 rating to a 1.2) and grew by +93% or more than 1.5 million persons in total viewers (1.6 million to 3.2 million). The 0.8 in adults 18-49 for the night matches NBC's highest Saturday average since March 7 ("Premier Boxing Champions," "Caught on Camera with Nick Cannon," 1.0)

Sunday

"Dateline NBC" (1.1/4 in 18-49, 6.1 million viewers overall from 7-9 p.m. ET) reported its highest Sunday ratings in adults 18-49 and adults 25-54 (1.6) since March 22 (1.2 in 18-49, 1.6 in 25-54) and its biggest overall Sunday audience since Jan. 25 (6.7 million). Versus the prior week's 7-8 p.m. telecast, this week's two-hour "Dateline" was up +38% in 18-49 (1.1 vs. 0.8), +33% in 25-54 (1.6 vs. 1.2) and +40% in total viewers (6.1 million vs. 4.3 million). This week's "Dateline" doubled its rating from its first half-hour to its fourth in both 18-49 (0.7 to 1.4) and 25-54 (1.1 to 2.2) and increased by +75% or 3.3 million persons in total viewers (4.5 million to 7.8 million).

"A.D. THE BIBLE Continues" (1.1/3 in 18-49, 5.8 million viewers overall from 9-10:01 p.m. ET) maintained its rating week to week in men 18-49 (1.1), women 18-49 (1.2), adults 25-54 (1.7), men 25-54 (1.6) and women 25-54 (1.8). "A.D. THE BIBLE Continues" ranked #2 in the time period among the Big 4 in adults 25-54 (1.7 rating). L+3: The previous week's "A.D. THE BIBLE Continues" increased in L+3 vs. L+SD by +15% in 18-49 rating (1.16 to 1.33) and in total viewers by 884,000 persons (6.4 million to 7.2 million). L+7: "A.D. THE BIBLE Continues" has grown by +21% in 18-49 (from a 2.00 rating to a 2.41) and 1.5 million viewers overall (8.7 million to 10.2 million) going from L+SD to L+7.

"American Odyssey" (0.5/2 in 18-49, 2.8 million viewers overall from 10:01-11 p.m. ET) equaled the prior week's adult 18-49 rating. L+3: The prior week's "American Odyssey" increased in L+3 vs. L+SD by +25% in 18-49 rating (0.52 to 0.65) and in total viewers by 963,000 persons (3.1 million to 4.1 million). L+7: "American Odyssey" is increasing by an average +20% in 18-49 rating (from a 0.98 to a 1.18) and more than 1.3 million viewers overall (4.7 million to 6.1 million) going from L+SD to L+7.
