NBC NIGHTLY NEWS Wins Across the Board for September 2016

NBC NIGHTLY NEWS WITH LESTER HOLT ranked #1 across the board in September 2016, averaging 7.924 million total viewers. The NBC News broadcast tied with ABC in total viewers, while ranking #1 outright among A25-54 and A18-49. In the demo, Nightly News delivered 2 million viewers, leading ABC by +245,000 (+15%) and CBS by +500,000 (+35%). Nightly News has won the demo for 15 consecutive months and its September lead over ABC in the demo is +64% higher than a year ago. The NBC News broadcast averaged 1.4 million A18-49 viewers in September 2016, topping ABC by +196,000 (+16%) and CBS by +430,000 (+44%). Nightly News has ranked #1 among A18-49 for 17 consecutive months and 107 of the last 108 months.

Nightly News ranked #1 in the demo for the week of September 26, averaging 2 million A25-54 viewers, leading "ABC World News Tonight" by +226,000 (13%) and "CBS Evening News" by 497,000 (+32%). Nightly News posted its best A25-54 delivery since the Rio Olympics (week of August 15, 2016) and its best non-Olympics average in six months (week of March 21, 2016). The NBC News broadcast held its widest demo advantages over the competition in three weeks.

Among A18-49, Nightly News averaged 1.5 million viewers for the week, topping ABC by +188,000 (+14%) and CBS by +430,000 (+41%). Nightly News saw its biggest non-Olympics A18-49 delivery since the week of March 21, 2016. Nightly News was the only evening newscast to grow in A18-49 viewers week to week (+42,000) or year over year (+11,000).

The NBC News broadcast has ranked #1 in A25-54 and A18-49 for 61 of the last 62 weeks. Week to week, Nightly News was up in both A25-54 viewers (+3%, or +54,000) and A18-49 viewers (+3%, or +42%). The NBC News broadcast improved its demo advantages over ABC by +13% in A25-54 and +37% in A18-49.
